  • Mourinho seeks to steady Spurs against rampant Liverpool
  • Battling Norwich could claim a point at Old Trafford
  • Pearson’s Watford ready to inflict more pain on Bournemouth

England’s Premier League returns to action after its New Year break for the FA Cup Third Round with Liverpool looking to continue their runaway dominance at the top of the table.

But they could run into a stubborn obstacle away against a Tottenham Hotspur side desperate to get back on track after a faltering of the early promise shown under new coach Jose Mourinho on Saturday, January 11, at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, London, 12:30 pm EST.

Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool team look to have one hand on the EPL trophy already after the club’s 30-year wait for a title success.

EPL Pick 1: Tottenham Hotspur vs Liverpool

They are priced as favorites to win in north London this weekend at -143. Spurs are +340 with the draw an attractive +300.

The Reds have won 19 games and drawn once – dropping only two points – all season.

As their momentum keeps them hurtling towards league title glory, they last month added the FIFA World Club Cup to the Champions League prize they won against Spurs in Madrid last June.

This will be the second meeting of the teams since that final following Liverpool’s 2-1 win at Anfield in the EPL in October.

Spurs are in the midst of a two-match winless run and master tactician Mourinho will surely attempt at least to steady the ship and to make his side resolute and defensively strong against Liverpool’s rampant attacking power.

Tottenham suffered a shock 1-0 defeat by Southampton last time out after a draw against bottom-placed Norwich City.

In the circumstances, Mourinho may play things cautiously which makes the draw an attractive proposition.

They have won just once in the last four games and have now lost star striker and captain Harry Kane to a serious hamstring injury which will keep him out of action until April.

In the circumstances, Mourinho may play things cautiously which makes the draw an attractive proposition.

Given Mourinho’s reputation for defying the odds, however, the +340 on offer for a Tottenham win could be a valuable bold option.

Klopp played a second-string team in the FA Cup win at home against Everton last weekend in order to rest senior players.

But the club has played 11 fixtures since the beginning of December and Mourinho will seek to find a way to exploit this.

Pick: Draw +300

EPL Pick 2: Manchester United vs Norwich City

Manchester United and manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer continue to endure a barrage of criticism after a depressing start to the New Year.

Bottom club Norwich City look a good prospect for a draw away against Solskjaer’s side on Saturday, January 11, at Old Trafford, Manchester at 10:00 am EST.

It’s an intriguing +380 for it to finish all-square. United are -270 to win with Norwich t +640.

United won 3-1 at Norwich in October but they are stuttering again and under pressure.

Daniel Farke’s Norwich team have earned creditable draws in their most recent two matches.

They held Crystal Place 1-1 at home after a 2-2 draw against Tottenham, also at their Carrow Road stadium.

Although they had suffered defeats in the two prior fixtures, they also earned a 1-1 result away against high-flying Leicester City on December 14.

United won 3-1 at Norwich in October but they are stuttering again and under pressure.

Rivals Manchester City humiliated them in a 3-1 Carabao Cup semifinal first-leg win at Old Trafford last Wednesday.

Before that, they turned in a dismal performance in a goalless draw away against Wolves in the FA Cup.

In their last EPL fixture, they lost 2-0 at Arsenal.

Pick: Draw +380

EPL Pick 3: Bournemouth vs Watford

Bournemouth host Watford in a critical relegation battle on Sunday between the teams placed 18th and 19th respectively at Vitality Stadium, Bournemouth at 9:00 am EST.

Watford have been revitalized under manager Nigel Pearson, their third coach of the season.

Bournemouth have won just once in their last 10 EPL games and were hammered 4-0 last time out away at West Ham United on New Year’s Day.

Watford look a good price for an away win at +165.

After losing his opening game against Liverpool, Pearson has engineered an impressive four-match unbeaten run.

Eddie Howe’s Bournemouth side are rated at +158 for the win with the draw also enticing at +225.

Pearson took charge of Watford on December 6. After losing his opening game against Liverpool, he has engineered an impressive four-match unbeaten run.

It has included a win against Manchester United, a draw at Sheffield United, a defeat of Aston Villa and a win against Wolves.

It has raised hopes they can beat the drop after looking doomed earlier in the season.

Pick: Watford +165
