  • The Europa League draw took place on Monday morning and with the Round of 32 in place the title odds have shifted
  • English clubs Tottenham and Manchester United have the best odds to win the Europa League, while AC Milan and Arsenal are some other favorites
  • Currently, the Tottenham moneyline to win the Europa league sits at +500

The Europa League Round of 32 is set, and Jose Mourinho’s Tottenham side are the slim favorites to lift the piece of European silverware. They are set to play Wolfsberger in their first knockout round, while fellow London club Arsenal are matched with Benfica, who have the 11th-best odds. Moving to North England, after falling out of the Champions League, Manchester United has the second-best odds in the competition as they play La Liga leaders, Real Sociedad.

With the Europa League knockout rounds, always comes big surprises. The early Europa League favorites are practically thrown out the window when they are joined by the eight Champions League clubs who finished third in their respective group. With teams like Manchester United, Ajax and Salzburg coming down into Europe’s second division, the competition is far from over. Additionally, all current league leaders across Europe’s power five leagues are still in the Europa League, meaning we are in store for a great set of knockout rounds.

Manchester United Do Not Have the Depth to Compete In Europe

Despite already possessing the second-best odds to win the Europa League, Manchester United is far off from lifting silverware this season. Their Premier League form has been mediocre and we all witnessed their abysmal fall out of the Champions League with two consecutive losses to Paris and RB Leipzig. Despite a valuable draw to Manchester City last weekend,

Ole being at the wheel does not look like a long-term fit for Manchester United. With Paul Pogba also wanting out of the club, their depth continues to go downwards. Unfortunately, it will take a new manager or large crop of purchases in January from the Glazers to give Manchester United any real shot at this competition.

Furthermore, there are a couple of dark horses to win the Europa League. Currently, AC Milan, Bayer Leverkusen and Real Sociedad are all top of their domestic leagues after ten or so matches. They respectively play Red Star, Young Boys and Manchester United in the first knockout round with good odds of advancing. Out of these three, Bayer Leverkusen probably should have the best odds to win the competition.

Leverkusen made it to the quarterfinals of the Europa League last season, falling out to eventual runners-up, Inter Milan. They have adapted extremely well this season, despite losing their golden midfielder Kai Havertz to Chelsea, with the help up Alario and Bailey up top.

The Case for Tottenham Hotspur

At the top of the Europa League odds table sit Tottenham Hotspur. A side that has been left lonely in their trophy hunt for what seems to be decades. Now with Jose Mourinho and Harry Kane moving at full throttle, they sit atop England’s first division. Their defense is more organized and the offense looks as clinical as ever with Heung-Min Son lighting it up this season with ten goals and four assists.

Tottenham have the luxury of playing Wolfsberger in the Europa League Round of 32, a team they will easily slide past. In recent times, Tottenham has been viewed as the chokers. However, Jose is changing that dressing room into a team of pure fighters. Personally, I think Liverpool will edge them out in the Premier League early on, forcing Jose’s hand to put Tottenham’s focus on the Europa League, a competition he has won twice with Manchester United and Porto.

Best Bet

Overall, my best bet has to be Tottenham Hotspur. All of the other teams are missing a piece or two or look like they will soon be going through drastic changes. Tottenham is the safest pick while also offering great future value.

My Pick: Tottenham (+500)
