  • Tottenham and England striker Harry Kane says he is fresh after good pre-season
  • Liverpool’s Mo Salah may be a slow starter after international duty
  • Arsenal’s Aubameyang has consistency and record to challenge

Harry Kane says he has enjoyed his most productive pre-season for some years and is now the outright favorite to win the EPL’s Golden Boot as leading scorer in the coming campaign.

The England striker endured an injury-hit time in 2018-19 after a tiring World Cup summer in Russia.

But his impressive performances in Tottenham’s warm-up games so far and his declaration of freshness and mental sharpness have alerted the analysts.

He has moved ahead of Liverpool’s Mo Salah to be ranked as first choice in the EPL Golden Boot odds, with his average odds at +380. But the fact that the Anfield side are more likely title contenders than Tottenham could well give Salah the edge over Kane

Anfield Stars Rested

By contrast, Salah has started only one of Liverpool’s pre-season fixtures against Lyon on July 31 while he has been rested after appearing for Egypt at the African Cup of Nations last month.

It leaves Salah rated at +450 ahead of Manchester City’s Sergio Ageuro, who is +600.

Arsenal’s Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is +700 – the best value bet out there –  and Salah’s Anfield team-mate Sadio Mane is +1200.

The prize was jointly-won by Salah, Mane and Aubameyang last season after each scored 22 goals.

Last month Kane and Salah were equally-rated at +550.

Kane has signalled that he is ready for a quick-fire start to the new season by scoring against Juventus and Real Madrid during the team’s warm-up spell.

Last summer his pre-season build-up was strictly curtailed after England’s progress to the World Cup semi-finals.

Major Ankle Injuries

He was the Golden Boot winner in 2015-16 and 2016-17. But two serious ankle injuries caused by fatigue restricted him to only 28 EPL appearances last season in which he managed 17 goals – sixth in the standings.

Kane will lose one of his most creative play-making suppliers if Christian Eriksen leaves north London, as rumours suggest.

Salah won the Golden Boot outright in 2017-18 with 32 EPL goals.

Jurgen Klopp’s outfit  scored 89 league goals to finish second in May.

Liverpool’s focus will be upon ending their 30-year-wait for a league title after wining the Champions League in June.

Jurgen Klopp’s outfit  scored 89 league goals to finish second in May. The fact they are more likely title contenders than Tottenham could well give Salah the edge over Kane.

But it could take Salah a while to get going after his summer exertions.

Aubameyang’s consistency for Arsenal has been impressive and he is a seriously good value bet.

Prolific Strike Rate for Gunners

In total, he has scored no fewer than 32 goals in 49 EPL appearances since he was signed in January, 2018.

His joint Golden Boot was won despite the fact that Arsenal finished only fifth. His 22 strikes came in only 30 starts.

Manager Unai Emery has made a major move to make his team more productive up front by signing the Ivory Coast winger Nicolas Pepe from Lille for £72 million.

He scored 22 league goals in France last season but more importantly, the plan is that he will deliver even more opportunities for Aubameyang and fellow striker Alexander Lacazette.

City’s Argentine hit-man Aguero is 31 but shows no sign of losing his edge after hitting 21 EPL goals last season.

Salah’s Liverpool colleague Mane is not a consistently-high goal-getter. Last season was a career-best, welcome blip. At 27, though, he is entering his prime and looks a good outside bet for the prize.

City’s Argentine hit-man Aguero is 31 but shows no sign of losing his edge after hitting 21 EPL goals last season. His team are favorites for a third successive title so he is sure to be in the reckoning, although he may be rested on occasion for Gabriel Jesus.

Team-mate Raheem Sterling has become more consistent under the guidance of Pep Guardiola. He scored 17 EPL goals last season and is a good-looking outsider for the Boot.

The Pick: Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (+700)
