Serie A matchday 9 brings a massive clash on Sunday between Inter Milan and Juventus at the San Siro. The kick-off is scheduled for 2:45pm ET.

Juve will be looking to keep climbing the table after a poor start to the campaign and with a victory, they can draw level with Inter on points. The Derby d’Italia is one of the most historic rivalries around Europe. Last term, both sides won a game apiece in league action, while also locking horns twice in the Coppa Italia as Juve won 2-1 on aggregate across two legs.

Inter Need Bounce Back Result

Simone Inzaghi’s side has played extremely well this term, but they finally slipped up and tasted defeat for the first time in 2021-22 last weekend as Lazio beat them 3-1. The visitors got off to a great start in Rome, with Ivan Perisic bagging an early opener from the spot. But, it was all downhill from there for the Nerazzurri, with Ciro Immobile equalizing in the 64th minute before Felipe Anderson and Sergej Milinkovic-Savic sealed the deal for the hosts.

Inter had no shortage of chances in the fixture but simply couldn’t finish. That was a rare occurrence though, considering the reigning champions have bagged a Serie A-best 23 goals this season while conceding just 11 times in eight games. Inzaghi’s men collected a much-needed victory mid-week in the Champions League though, running out as 3-1 winners against Moldovan outfit Sheriff. While the UCL debutants are by no means a strong team, Inter was electrifying in the final third, registering 29 attempts, but only eight found the target.

Three points will be crucial against Juventus as the title-holders currently sit five points off second-place AC Milan and a whole seven behind table-toppers Napoli. History is not on Inzaghi’s side, however. The Italian gaffer has lost eight times to the Old Lady in his managerial career and has never beaten Max Allegri on home soil. Thankfully, Inzaghi has a full-strength squad at his disposal. Edin Dzeko will be a key figure up top after netting six times already in eight league appearances.

Juve in Fine Form

Juve was in shambles through the first three matches of the campaign, failing to win once. But since, Allegri’s side has been absolutely phenomenal. They’ve won seven of eight games and only dropped two points along the way in a 1-1 draw with Milan in another derby. During this impressive spell, the Old Lady have beaten the likes of Chelsea, Sampdoria, and most recently, Jose Mourinho’s Roma on matchday 8 in a 1-0 result.

Although it was a rather even fixture, Juventus took advantage of their minimal opportunities when Moise Kean headed home a Federico Bernardeschi cross early in the first half. Roma had the chance to equalize from the spot when Henrikh Mkhitaryan was taken down in the box by Wojciech Szczęsny. But, the Polish international made up for his mistake by making a phenomenal save to keep his side ahead.

Juve hasn’t beaten any club in the Italian top-flight more than Inter, collecting a total of 85 victories over the years. In fact, they’ve only lost once in their previous 10 games against the Nerazzurri. The squad will be getting a huge boost on Sunday as well, with striker Paulo Dybala set to return from injury while midfielder Adrien Rabiot will also be back in Allegri’s plans after a bout with COVID-19. It’s unlikely Dybala starts following a month sidelined with a hamstring issue, but he could feature as a substitute in the second half.

Inter Milan vs Juventus Prediction

This is truly an enormous clash for both teams. While Inter has been playing free-flowing football, Juve’s backline is strong and should be able to contain the likes of Dzeko and Lautaro Martinez. The Bianconeri are finding their stride and will continue their unbeaten run. Cash in on the draw and the under in goals.
