One of the most highly-anticipated fixtures in this year’s UEFA Champions League group stage is just days away. On Wednesday, October 28th, kick-off 4 PM EST, Juventus welcomes Barcelona to the Allianz Stadium in Turin.

Both sides grabbed three points last week, with Juve beating Dynamo Kyiv by two goals, meanwhile, the La Liga giants buried Hungarian outfit Ferencvarosi 5-1. Back in the 2017/18 UCL campaign, these two teams were also in the same group, playing to a scoreless draw in their last appearance as they both advanced out of Group D that year.

Juve Looking to Find Form

Since Cristiano Ronaldo was diagnosed with COVID-19, Juventus has struggled to find results. Despite their win over Dynamo last weekend, they’ve tied in two consecutive league appearances, barely pulling out a point on Sunday after Dejan Kulusevski scored an equalizer against Verona in the 77th minute. Ronaldo’s vibrant talents on the attack have definitely been missed and it’s still doubtful that he will return for Wednesday’s heavyweight fixture.

On the whole, Andrea Pirlo’s side hasn’t been in great form this term so far, currently sitting in fifth place in Serie A with two wins and three draws. Cristiano has been productive in the two games he’s featured in, already bagging three goals. Kulusevski will be looked upon to provide some brilliance in the final third against Barca as they look for a positive result on home soil.

Barca Looking to Bounce Back After El Clasico Defeat

It hasn’t been the greatest of starts for the Catalan giants either, going 2-1-2 in their first five games in Spain. Aside from their convincing Matchday 1 victory against a weak Hungarian side, Ronald Koeman’s men have looked completely dismal, along with Leo Messi. They lost 3-1 in the El Clasico to Real Madrid over the weekend, with the Argentine failing to get on the scoresheet for the sixth consecutive derby against their La Liga rivals. He’s also scored just two goals this term.

Despite their disappointing showing against Los Blancos, there were some questionable calls by the referee, including a penalty that looked to be a dive by Sergio Ramos more than anything. Nonetheless, Barca has struggled to adjust to life under their new Dutch boss. On a positive note though, 17-year old prodigy Ansu Fati continues to impress, scoring their lone goal over the weekend and has already netted four times across all competitions.

Team News

Both sides will be missing several key players for this fixture. Juve could be without defensive duo Giorgio Chiellini and Leonardo Bonucci, who are both suffering from minor injuries. The absence of Pirlo’s two center-backs creates concerns, as he will likely need to select two full-backs in Gianluca Frabotta and Danilo to fill in for his two veteran defenders. Ronaldo is still questionable due to COVID-19, while Matthijs de Ligt has yet to feature this season due to a shoulder injury. Brazilian Alex Sandro is also doubtful.

For Barca, keeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen is still out, while Philippe Coutinho and Samuel Umtiti will be absent, with the Brazilian picking up an injury against Madrid on the weekend. Defensive mainstay Gerard Pique will also miss this game after getting a red card against Ferencvarosi last week.

Best Bet

It’s no secret that both of these teams are struggling this season. With numerous important players missing in each squad, I believe a draw is a safe bet here. We could see Barca expose Juve’s backline due to the absences of Chiellini and Bonucci, but I don’t think they’ll put more than one past the hosts. Each team will score a goal apiece and take away a point in this Group G fixture in Turin.

Pick: Draw +225
