  • On Friday, August 7th, Juventus will host Lyon at the Allianz Stadium for the second leg of their highly anticipated Champions League Round of 16 match-up
  • Underdogs Lyon were able to scrounge a 1-0 victory in the first leg back in France nearly five entire months ago
  • Despite the reverse fixture, Juventus are still expected to win the second leg with moneyline odds of -240

The second leg fixture between Juventus and Lyon has all the fixing to be a Champions League knockout classic. A true David vs Goliath game, that sees the underdogs Lyon, clenching to 1-0 lead. The first game was won thanks to a wonderful Lucas Tousart finish and now it all comes down to the second leg at the Allianz Stadium in Turin.

The last match between these two sides was nearly half a year ago, believe it or not. A lot has changed since then, including an injury to Argentinian golden boy, Paulo Dybala of Juventus. The 26-year-old has been struggling with some thigh issues and has yet to be confirmed as part of the squad on Friday. Without his attacking prowess, most of this pressure will be left on the shoulders of Portuguese star, Cristiano Ronaldo. Of course, we all know what he can do in this competition.

Lack of Competitive Play Will Hurt Lyon

A major factor playing on this match is the recent competition both sides have been up against. Juventus were lucky enough to finish out their Serie A campaign and win their ninth consecutive domestic trophy. Lyon, on the other hand, were forced to sit and watch as Ligue 1 handed their trophy to PSG. In the meantime, Lyon has played various friendlies against Nice, Rangers, Celtic, Gent and Royal Antwerp.

A game against PSG in the Coupe de la Ligue will enhance their sharpness, but still, this could play into Friday’s performance against a dangerous Juventus side. Nevertheless, Lyon will also have big-name forward Memphis Depay back in their team come the end of the week. The Dutchman missed out on the first leg and will be vital if Lyon wants to score that imperative away goal.

Ronaldo, Ronaldo, Ronaldo

The heading here says all you need to know about who you should expect to perform in this match. Throughout his illustrious career, Ronaldo can be attributed to his undisputed Champions League success. The Juventus forward has 128 goals in the Champions League across just 169 matches, truly an incredible statistic.

The best players shine in the best matches, and these are the moments CR7 lives for. Lyon are winless the last ten times they traveled in the Champions League knockout stages. Expect Ronaldo and the rest of Juventus to take advantage of this come Friday night in Turin. A bet on Ronaldo as anytime goalscorer has odds of -210, while Ronaldo to be the game’s first scorer is listed at +200.

Best Bet

Finally, the best bet for this match is the ‘Under’ on a total of 2 1/2 goals with odds of +108. These odds are some of the best on the table and this match has ‘Under’ written all over it. Juventus will be keen to score and Ronaldo will probably carry them through to the quarterfinals with a couple of big moments. However, Lyon will be clinging to the goalposts in defense which supports the notion that this will probably be a one or two-score game. At +108, this bet is really hard to turn away from.

My Pick: Under 2 1/2 total goals (+108)
