On Sunday, Juventus take on Roma in Turin at the Allianz Stadium. This match is a highlighted fixture not only for Italy, but all of Europe, as two truly historic clubs square off.

For both clubs, this game represents their eighth match so far in what has been a crazy start to the Serie A Campaign.

In fact, saying the Scudetto is wide open for the taking is probably an understatement at this point.

Somehow, Napoli and AC Milan hold the top two spots on the table, with some very surprising names, like Juventus, below them. Basically, the tides are changing in Italy, and Juventus cannot be counted on to win every big fixture like they have been in recent years.

How They’re Playing

Since Juventus vanquished their reign on the Serie A last year to Inter Milan, they have been utterly poor. The side, managed by returning gaffer, Massimiliano Allegri, only gained two points from their first four games this season.

While they now sit in seventh after three consecutive wins, it still begs the question; how serious do we take Juventus?

Furthermore, facing Roma will be no easy draw for Juventus. Despite some inconsistencies as of late, they look like an inspired side as of late under Jose Mourinho.

This will be the Portuguese manager’s second stint in Italy and his eighth match against Juventus. In those seven prior games, he managed to win two and draw once, only losing twice. Additionally, his Premier League additions of Tammy Abraham up front and Rui Patricio in goal have made a world of difference for I Giallorossi.

Juventus Without Paulo Dybala and Alvaro Morata

While things seemed to be on the up for Juventus after four consecutive wins in all competitions, they get dealt another setback.

Consequently, it is probable that they will be without both Paulo Dybala and Alvaro Morata come Sunday, due to injury.

With seven goal contributions in nine combined starts, Juventus and Allegri will desperately miss their offensive prowess.

As a result, they will look to Federico Chiesa to do the heavy lifting up front. The 23 year-old Italian only has one goal on the season but it was a meaningful winner against Chelsea in the Champions League. Also, Moise Kean will also make his way in the Juventus starting eleven, despite only playing 145 minutes so far this year.

While Chiesa and Kean look to start up top in Allegri’s normal 4-4-2 formation, look for Manual Locatelli behind them in the midfield to also make a big impact. He has been one of Juventus’ best players so far this season and has the skill to break down the Roma back line.

Can Roma Start to Build Consistency?

Undoubtedly, Roma look to be a much better side this season. Regardless, their inconsistency so far has been concerning. Their two 3-2 defeats to Verona and Lazio were both easily winnable matches that Jose surely would have been frustrated about. Now, after the international break, is where Roma can hit the ground running and break this blip of inconsistent performances.

They will be without Chris Smalling at the back, which is concerning. But, their offense as stated prior, is one that can actually threaten Juventus. This in itself is hard to come by in Serie A.

Precisely, the combination of Abraham up top, with Lorenzo Pellegrini and Jordan Veretout in midfield is one any defense should sweat over. The trio already has 10 goals this season and have good odds to break down Leonardo Bonucci and Matthijs de Ligt of Juventus.

Finally, in their last five head-to-head matches in Serie A, both sides have won twice, lost twice and drawn once. This is the perfect display of just how close this Italian rivalry really is.

Juventus vs Roma Best Bet

Overall, the best bet for this match is the draw moneyline with odds of +255. This bet obviously has great value, and is one that just feels right. Juventus are missing their attacking depth and Roma are still feeling things out under Mourinho. As a result, I think neither of these sides will find the definitive advantage and will walk away with a point.

Pick: Draw moneyline (+255)
