Juve is currently just one of four teams in the competition who have a perfect nine points from three games, most recently beating Zenit on Matchday 3 by a goal. As for the visitors, they have just three points in the group, with their lone victory coming against Swedish outfit Malmo.

Juve Need a Result

Considering Max Allegri’s side is comfortably at the top of this group, Tuesday’s fixture doesn’t seem like a must-win. However, given their dwindling form, it is. Since their victory at Zenit on October 20th, Juventus have been playing extremely poor football. Their 1-1 draw with Inter was respectable, but back-to-back 2-1 defeats to Sassuolo and Hellas Verona put the side in a very brutal spot at the moment.

The Old Lady are currently ninth in the Serie A table and a whopping 16 points off league-leaders Napoli. Needless to say, this is an unfamiliar spot for the Italian giants, who are regularly used to winning on a consistent basis. Juve’s attack has been extremely toothless as of late. Paulo Dybala and Alvaro Morata are scoreless in two games, with midfielder Weston McKennie bagging the side’s last two goals.

It’s still early in the league campaign, but given how far they’re behind the cream of the crop in the top flight, Allegri’s men are likely focusing on the possibilities in Europe this term. Juve is showing a lot more promise in UCL play, netting five times in three outings, and is yet to concede. In the process, the club has beaten reigning champions Chelsea, who trail them by three points at the moment. The Bianconceri clash with the Blues again on Matchday 5 as well, this time at Stamford Bridge.

With a victory on Tuesday, Juventus can solidify their spot in the knockout stages. Allegri has essentially a full-strength squad at his disposal, with the exception of Mattia De Sciglio and Moise Kean, who is doubtful due to injury.

Can Zenit Capitalize?

Zenit St Petersburg may not be playing great in the Champions League, but if there was a time for them to pull off an upset, it would be now when Juve is struggling to find results. The Russians have just three points to show for thus far, with the only bright spot coming on Matchday 2 in a dominant 4-0 performance against Malmo.

Sergei Semak’s side hasn’t exactly been blown out of the water in their other fixtures though, tasting defeat by 1-0 scorelines to Chelsea and Juventus. In the Blues game, Zenit had a clear-cut chance to take a lead, but Artem Dzyuba missed an absolute sitter before Romelu Lukaku secured the full points for the hosts with a brilliant header. They also held their own on Matchday 3 against the Italians, registering the same number of opportunities on goal as their counterparts, but couldn’t find the end product.

Domestically, Zenit is once again the class of their league, sitting in the top spot through 13 games. The reigning champions dismantled Dynamo Moscow 4-1 on Friday, with four different players finding the back of the net. Although the competition is much different in Europe, St Petersburg has outscored their opponents by nine goals across their last two outings in the Russian Premier League.

Juventus vs Zenit Prediction

While Juve is in dismal form, it’s hard to bet against them here. This is the one competition where the Old Lady have played terrific football and I do believe you’ll see them put together another good result on Tuesday at the Allianz Arena. Expect their backline to stay solid as well and keep another clean sheet against Zenit.

Pick: Juventus (-190) & to Keep a Clean Sheet (+115)
