  • On Sunday, November 8th, 2020, Lazio host Juventus at the Stadio Olimpico in Rome, Italy
  • Juventus have not been at their best so far this season in Serie A; however, neither have Lazio who currently sit in tenth place on ten points
  • See odds, analysis, and our best bet for Juventus vs Lazio below

After six games, Juventus are probably quite surprised to not be at the top of the Italian league table. Currently sitting in third behind AC Milan and Sassuolo, the Old Lady looks to climb closer to their usual perch on Sunday morning when they face Lazio in Rome.

It has not been an easy start to the season for Juventus, especially noting that they were without Cristiano Ronaldo for four games due to COVID-19. Nonetheless, Andrea Pirlo’s side is coming off two consecutive 4-1 victories against Spezia and Ferencvaros, which will surely make them confident this weekend.

Lazio have had a fairly similar start to their campaign. In their last six matches, they have the same record as Juventus with three wins, two draws, and a singular loss. Additionally, the Eagles are undefeated in Europe after three matches.

Despite this, Lazio has dealt with a flurry of injuries and positive COVID cases. It looks like they will be without Stefan Radu and Manuel Lazzari this weekend, while Luis Alberto and Ciro Immobile come back into the action.

Let’s take a look at the odds and my best bet for this Series A showdown.

Ronaldo’s Performance is Imperative for Juventus

Two games with Ronaldo back has equaled two 4-1 victories for a sputtering Juventus side. Say what you wish about the theoretical greatest of all time, but Juventus only won one game in his absence to a Dynamo Kyiv side with only a single point in the Champions League. This Juventus side has a lot of good players, but definitely not great ones. Aside from Paulo Dybala and Alvaro Morato, Juventus has a lot of average-to-good players.

Furthermore, they are without Matthijs de Ligt, Alex Sandro, and Aaron Ramsey which will make this game quite a bit more challenging. Lazio are not world-beaters, but they have proven they can stick with the big boys of Europe.

I personally do not think this game will be off the rails with goals, so it will come down to sheer talent to bring the game home. That talent lies in the hands of Ronaldo who already has five goals this season, two of which came in his first game back for Juventus.

Lazio Are Much Better Than Their Position in the Table

Do not let tenth place fool you, Lazio are an experienced and talented side. Despite being almost in the bottom half, they are only two points behind Juventus in third place, which goes to show the competition in Italy this season.

The past four times these sides met, they each won two in games that averaged 3.25 total goals. Ciro Immobile is back in the Lazio squad which, is scary for Juventus, the team that once singed Immobile as an 18-year-old.

With Milinkovic-Savic, Alberto and Leiva in the midfield Lazio, are capable of bossing any game. On top of that, Juventus can be complacent in Italy which we have witnessed so many times before. They always expect a win, so it is fairly easy for teams to go out and surprise them. Overall, Lazio have the tools to win, they just need to not let missing Radu and Lazzari affect them to the point of no return.

Best Bet

My best bet for this match is the surprising draw at +275. Juventus have drawn half of their games in Serie A this season, and despite having a healthy Ronaldo on their side, they have to face Immobile, who is just as deadly.

These teams both have injury problems and are both on similar form which, leads me to believe Lazio can win a point at home in Rome. Nonetheless, it should be a great match for all neutrals to watch as two top Italian sides go head-to-head.

My Pick: Draw (+275)
