  • Foxes have already surpassed their win total from all of last season
  • Leicester have enjoyed a favorable schedule, but will be put to the test with matches against Liverpool, Manchester City over Christmas

Leicester City continued their steady climb up the Premier League table this past weekend, posting a 2-0 win over Arsenal FC, lifting them past Manchester City into a tie for second-place with Chelsea FC. The Foxes’ impressive run has not been overlooked at the sportsbooks, where they now sit third on the odds to win in Premier League futures as a +3300 bet.

Foxes on Rebound Following Dismal Campaign

The Foxes have enjoyed a dramatic turnaround from last season. Pegged as a lengthy +23000 wager in the EPL odds as recently as October 7, the club has already surpassed its win total from all of last season while racking up an impressive 8-2-2 win-draw-loss record. That includes impressive victories in each of their past four outings, in which they have outscored opponents by a wide 15-1 margin.

Veteran Jamie Vardy has led the Leicester attack, potting six goals during the club’s current win streak to take the lead in the Premier League goalscoring race. The hero of the Foxes’ unlikely march to the Premier League title in 2016, Vardy now has 11 markers on the season, and has vaulted to a short +400 second-favorite to emerge as the EPL’s top goalscorer this season.

The Foxes have played exceptional defense during their impressive start to the campaign, keeping clean sheets on five occasions, including each of their past three outings, while surrendering a league-best eight goals through 12 matches.

In addition, the Foxes have played exceptional defense during their impressive start to the campaign, keeping clean sheets on five occasions, including each of their past three outings, while surrendering a league-best eight goals through 12 matches. Leicester now trail only Manchester City with an impressive +22 goal-differential that could be crucial to where they sit on the league table at the end of the campaign.

Leicester Enjoying Benefit of Favorable Schedule

However, the Foxes’ recent stretch of success has come largely against lightweight opponents. Prior to their win over Arsenal, Leicester posted wins over Burnley, Southampton, and Crystal Palace, who look to Matchday 13 with a combined 10-8-18 record this season. Indeed, the club’s only victories over clubs currently sporting winning records have come against the Gunners, as well as a narrow 2-1 win over recently promoted Sheffield United back in late August.

Leicester’s favorable schedule continues up until Christmas. The club visits Brighton this weekend as heavy +110 chalk, taking on an Albion side that currently sits 11th on the EPL table, but which have tallied wins in three straight home dates.

That contest is followed by matchups with four of the six clubs currently mired at the bottom of the table, including Everton, Watford, Aston Villa, and Norwich City. However, the competition stiffens considerably over the Holidays, with a road date against City on December 21st followed by a Boxing Day clash on home turf against league-leading Liverpool.

Foxes Struggling Against Stiff Competition

While the Foxes have dominated inferior opposition, apart from their win over the Gunners, they have failed to rise to the occasion against the Premier League’s elite clubs. Leicester battled to draws in each of two clashes with Chelsea, but struggled to generate offense in a 1-0 loss to Manchester United, and were largely dominated in a 2-1 loss to the Reds, whom they are now winless against in five straight league matchups.

With the Reds currently riding a 13-match unbeaten streak across all competitions, and holding a commanding eight-point lead over both the Foxes and Chelsea on the Premier League table, it is tough to see Leicester closing that gap and paying out on their +3300 odds.

Value Bets Abound

Plenty of attractive wagering options remain for loyal sports bettors looking for value out of Leicester though. The Foxes remain a +200 bet to finish atop the league table without Manchester City and Liverpool, and a solid -175 wager to finish above the line among the top four. In addition, a tournament winner and top goalscorer parlay featuring Liverpool and Vardy pays out on +550 odds, while a bet on Leicester’s total points this season topping 69.5 pays out on -115 odds.

Picks: Liverpool to win Premier League (-250); Leicester City to win EPL without Liverpool, Man City (+200); Leicester City Over 69.5 points (-115)
