  • Leicester City takes on Sheffield United on Thursday, July 16th, in the 36th round of Premier League fixtures.
  • The Foxes of Leicester have dropped all the way down to fourth place, while the Blades sit narrowly in seventh.
  • Currently, the favorites in the match are Leicester City with a moneyline of -102.

Leicester City and Sheffield United have been two bright spots of this Premier League season, as the two teams head into the 36th round of fixtures. The Foxes coming back to the forefront of England’s top flight with the likes of familiar faces Jamie Vardy and new names like Caglar Soyuncu and Youri Tielemans. Meanwhile, Sheffield surprising everyone going from relegation to a side fighting for European qualification under brilliant manager Chris Wilder.

However, Leicester have sunk drastically since the restart, much like Brendan Rodgers former projects. Leicester  have only managed one win in their last six games, dropping ten points and getting knocked out of the FA Cup to Chelsea. A 4-0 drubbing against Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium will have Sheffield licking their lips ahead of Thursday’s fixture against Leicester.

Sheffield United Building Form

Despite Leicester’s downturn, Sheffield United have been cruising their last four outings. With three wins against Tottenham, Wolves and Chelsea, and a draw against Burnley, the Blades should be all over this match. Leicester are not the heavy favorites here because Sheffield have been that good as of late. An attack of Ollie McBurnie and David McGoldrick scored three in their match against Chelsea, while a seasoned defense held a thriving Lampard team.

But, this is the usual now for Sheffield. Their team has only conceded 33 times this year. This is a mark only bettered by Jurgen Klopp and Liverpool and equates to roughly 0.95 goals conceded per game. The Foxes have barely scored a goal per game in their most recent group of fixtures, which calls into question if they will be able to pull off a result here.

Vardy Will Be Chasing the Golden Boot

One factor that cannot be ignored is the Golden Boot race. Vardy is set on 23 goals, three ahead of second-place Arsenal forward, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. While this is a far lead with three matches to go, Vardy will be eager to pad this total and ensure it will be him winning the trophy. It will be difficult against Sheffield, but knowing this particular Leicester player, he likes to have a party in the oddest of times.

Best Bet

The best bet for this match is the over on total goals with odds of -111. The value here is really good, and while picking Sheffield as an upset contender is smart, it very well could not happen. What we do know is that Sheffield is coming off a flyer against Chelsea, and Vardy is going to look to score at every opportunity. This equates to more goals, and getting over 2 1/2 is not that big of a challenge. The last time these two teams played, it finished 2-1 in favor of Leicester, and I expect a similar or slightly higher scoreline in Thursday’s face-off at the King Power Stadium.

My Pick: Over 2, 2 1/2 Goals (-111)
