Pressure on Leon in Must-Win Date with Puebla

Club Puebla aims to win five in a row in league play for the first time since their promotion to Liga MX in 2007 when they visit top-seeded Club Leon on Sunday night at Estadio Leon. The Camoteros have been red-hot since overcoming a dismal 2-1-9 win-draw-loss run, posting clean sheet wins over Atlas and Atletico San Luis to clinch the 12th and final playoff seed, and followed up by knocking defending champions Monterrey in qualification round action.

Leon dominated during the regular season with a league-best 12-4-1 record, and sit as well-deserved -240 favorites after going undefeated in 14 league matches at home so far in 2020. However, they have gone 3-0-3 in their past six against Puebla, including a crushing 4-0 victory in their most recent home date. With all the pressure on Leon, look for Puebla to seek to draw first blood for the third time in four outings, and take away Leon’s advantage in away goals, in what has the potential to be a wide-open high-scoring affair.

The Pick: Club León to win and both teams to score (+215)

Home Clubs Hold Edge in El Super Clasico Rivalry

Club America hopes to avoid elimination when they host Chivas Guadalajara on Sunday night as -125 home favorites. America dropped a 1-0 decision in first leg action, and have been limited to one or fewer goals in three of four outings. However, they have averaged over two goals per match at home since the start of the season.

Chivas have outgunned opponents by a 5-1 overall margin during a three-match win streak that includes victories over Monterrey and Club Necaxa. But with home clubs claiming victory in the past four meetings between these clubs, and Club America keeping clean sheets in seven of 18 home dates in 2020, Chivas face a challenge to claim their first road win over America in four years.

The Pick: Club America (-125)

Pumas Face Tough Test vs Road Warrior Tuzos

Pumas UNAM vies for a third straight win when they host CF Pachuca on Sunday as +105 favorites. They pushed Pachuca to the brink with a 1-0 first leg victory, and are now unbeaten in seven straight contests. Overall, Pumas have suffered just one defeat in league play since March, and are 9-6-1 at home since October 2019.

Listed as +260 underdogs in Sunday’s clash at Estadio Olímpico de Universitario, Pachuca have suffered shutout losses in their past two home dates, but the Tuzos have not surrendered more than one goal in nine road dates this season, a trend that extends to recent clashes with Pumas, whom they have played to low-scoring draws in five of seven road meetings.

The Pick: Draw (+230)

Tigres Must Fill the Net to Get Past Slumping Cruz Azul

Cruz Azul look to win two in a row for the first time since mid-September when they host Tigres UANL on Monday in their second leg matchup as -118 chalk. La Maquina halted a dismal 1-4-1 slide with a decisive 3-1 win in first leg action, but have scored just one total goal during a three-match winless slide on home turf that includes last month’s 2-0 loss to Tigres. However, Cruz Azul demonstrated their ability to fill the net while averaging almost 2.4 goals per match during a spectacular 13-0-0 run at home to start 2020.

Tigres cannot be underestimated in Monday’s contest. The club has avoided defeat in six of eight road dates, and sport a steady 3-3-2 record in their past eight away dates with Cruz Azul. Indeed, Tigres offer lots of value as +300 underdogs but faced with a two-goal deficit on aggregate, their chances of advancing look slim.

The Pick: Tigres UANL (+300)
