Ligue 1 Matchday 7 Odds & Picks: Bordeaux a Tempting +280 to Win Away in Marseille

Ligue 1 is now on Matchday 7 and its table has an unfamiliar look with Renne and Lille joint-leaders ahead of Lens, with reigning champions PSG currently down in fourth. While it’s very early days, the Parisiens have already lost twice.

We’ll list all ten games, show the odds, preview three, and offer a pick for each.

Pick 1: Marseille vs Bordeaux

Marseille’s start to the campaign hasn’t gone as planned with no wins since opening day, but Saturday’s home game with ninth-placed Bordeaux offers a chance to kick-start their season.

The Olympique have won their last three games in the Stade Velodrome against Bordeaux is a good omen, as manager Andre Villas-Boas looks to find a formula to help his team improve upon last season’s fifth-place finish. He will, however, be without the suspended Dimitri Payet, but Serbian international Nemanja Radonjic is expected to deputize.

Bordeaux comes into this on a high after a fine 3-0 win over Dijon on Matchday 6, but a win for Marseille will see the hosts leapfrog them in the table. As things stand, Bordeaux are level on points with OM but have a superior goal difference; both teams just five points behind the joint-leaders at this early stage. The good news for Bordeaux manager Jean-Louis Gasset is that Brazil midfielder Otavio is available again after suspension.

With the visitors’ buoyed by their success over Dijon, the least they should get here is a point – even with their poor recent record in the Velodrome – but I have a feeling that with their excellent defense (they’ve only conceded twice so far) could see them through to a narrow win.

Pick: Bordeaux ML (+280)

Pick 2: St Etienne vs Nice

The Stade Geoffroy-Guichard plays host to Saint Etienne against Nice on Sunday, with Les Verts aiming to bounce back after back-to-back defeats by Rennes and Lens. Three wins and a draw in their opening four games got St Etienne’s campaign off to a flying start, but the buffers have been hit over the last two matches.

Sunday’s task will be doubly difficult for them as they will be without Timothee Kolodziejczak and Wahbi Khazri, both of whom were shown a red in the defeat by Lens.

Nice, who are one place below St Etienne in the table (8th) but level on points, come into this off the back of their 2-1 win over Nantes just before the international break. While Nice are not known for their knack of picking up too many wins away from home, this offers a genuine opportunity for them if they can stay solid and not concede early on. But the stats suggest these two are very well matched and so, for that reason, I see value here in the draw.

Pick: Draw (+230) 

Pick 3: Lille vs Lens

It’s second versus third in the Stade Pierre-Mauroy, with the visitors knowing a win could take them top of the table in their first season back in the French top flight. It’s a big ask for Lens though, with Les Dogues still buzzing off the back of their fine start to the season which has seen them win four and draw two.

Lille only trail leaders Rennes on goal difference and, most crucially of all, have conceded just two goals in those six games.

Last time out, Lens were 2-0 victors over Saint Etienne and they’ll be desperate to squeeze as much as they can out of their post-promotion bounce. Of slight concern will be the fact they’re conceding, on average, a goal per game but they’ve been relatively free-scoring so far and will see this as a great test of how far they’ve come. The last time these two played at the Stade Pierre-Mauroy, Lille won 3-1 win and, with Lille’s mean defense, a similar scoreline here is not out of the question.
