Manchester City vs Arsenal Over/Under and Spread

Despite City being odds-on favorites, the bookies are not anticipating a goal-fest and we have to look at +3.5 for a plus-money bet on the number of goals (+150). The under is therefore on offer at a less tempting -210.

Manchester City vs Arsenal Preview

City’s relentless march to a third successive EPL title has been interrupted by an Arsenal team who, almost from nowhere, have propelled themselves to the top of the table with a five-point lead.

In most other seasons, City’s 14-3-3 record would be enough to give them a clear lead as they head into the second half of the season, but the Gunners appear capable of taking this title race the distance. And so, with Pep Guardiola’s men already knocked out of the EFL Cup, this competition may be City’s only route to domestic silverware.

City Cruise Past Chelsea

In the third round, City were also faced with ‘big six’ Premier League opponents in the form of Chelsea but made light work of what looked like a potentially difficult game. On a miserable afternoon for Chelsea, two goals from Riyad Mahrez and one each for Julian Alvarez and Phil Foden were more than enough to see City progress.

How this one plays out will depend largely on whether Guardiola and Mikel Arteta opt to play weakened teams ahead of what promises to be a huge EPL battle in the second half of the season. City’s squad depth is greater than Arsenal’s, so a battle of the second strings would likely favor the Citizens.

Arsenal’s Season of Dreams

For the Gunners, this has been the season of dreams. Not even in the darkest recesses of Mikel Arteta’s mind did he imagine his team leading the EPL by five points at the halfway stage.  And not only have the results been outstanding, but the quality of the soccer they have played has more than matched it.

Led by the outstanding Martin Odegaard, Arsenal have lost just three times all season – away at Manchester United in the EPL, to Brighton in the EFL Cup, and at PSV Eindhoven in the Europa League – and in their last two league games have overcome tricky-looking hurdles with wins over Tottenham and Man Utd (h).

Team Selection Conundrum for Arteta

With the Gunners on a quest for their first EPL title since 2003-04, Arteta will be keen that the FA Cup doesn’t become a distraction and so will potentially look to rest some of his key men. The last thing he’ll want is to pick up some unwanted injuries ahead of a vital few weeks.

The flip side is that he’ll not want his men to lose that winning mentality that has served them so well so far, so team selection will be key here for Arteta.

Manchester City vs Arsenal Team Lineups and Injuries

Man City Projected Lineup: Ortega, Walker, Dias, Akanji, Ake, Silva, Rodri, De Bruyne, Mahrez, Haaland, Alvarez.

Injuries & absences: Foden.

Arsenal Projected Lineup: Turner, Tomiyasu, Saliba, Gabriel, Kierney, Xhaka, Elneny, Saka, Odegaard, Trossard, Nketiah.

Injuries & absences: Jesus, Nelson, Soares.

Manchester City vs Arsenal Prediction

Much depends on the teams both coaches pick for this game but on the basis that City have more squad depth than almost any club side in the world, the value here is very much with the home win… even at -140.

Arteta will be keen to avoid a thrashing by their closest rivals for the EPL title and, in the long run, may regard a narrow defeat at the Etihad as a price worth paying.

Picks: Manchester City to win (-140) / Over 3.5 goals (+150)
