  • On Saturday, February 13th at 12:30 PM EST, Manchester City host Tottenham Hotspur in Premier League competition, at the Etihad Stadium
  • Manchester City looks to grow their five-point lead at the top of the table while Tottenham looks to turn some poor form around
  • Currently, Manchester City are the overwhelming favorites with a moneyline of -315

After a hiccup in form last year, Manchester City look like they are well on their way to another Premier League title. Manchester City vs Tottenham kicks off on Saturday afternoon in Matchday 24 of England’s top flight. Spurs are actually the side that gave them their last defeat across all competitions, all the way back in November. Since then, Pep Guardiola’s side have won 19 matches while only drawing three. Their lead stands at five points with a game in hand on the competition, but it will not be an easy three points this weekend.

Tottenham of course will want to back up their November showing with another strong outing against Manchester City. More importantly, Jose Mourinho’s side wants to see an overall improvement in form. Spurs have lost four out of their last five, falling to Liverpool, Brighton Chelsea and most recently Everton in a 5-4 FA Cup heartbreaker. Tottenham will be without Giovani Lo Celso, Sergio Reguilon and Serge Aurier, which will make it interesting to see how they shape up against the league leaders.

Will City’s Injuries Slow Them Down?

Despite Tottenham’s injuries, Manchester City are dealing with quite a few of their own, that could affect them come Saturday. Pep will be without Fernandinho and Kevin de Bruyne which definitely is a setback in the midfield. However, Rodrigo and Ruben Dias are available for selection after missing their FA Cup victory in the midweek due to injury and illness, respectively. Additionally, Sergio Aguero will also be available after a return to full team training this week, but it is unknown if any of these players will actually be selected or involved.

Regardless of who will be playing Sunday, this Manchester City side is back to their ruthless ways. Dias has immeasurably bettered City’s defense and has made quite the partnership with Englishman John Stones on the defensive side. On the attack, Raheem Sterling and company just have utter strength in numbers. Sterling and Ilkay Gundogan have been sensational this year on offense, combining for 17 goals. Did I mention, Phil Foden too?

Tottenham Is on an Abysmal Run of Form

On the other side of the pitch sit Tottenham, a team that has also gone back to their old ways. That is of course starting off the season with so much promise and inevitably falling flat in January. Despite only winning one of their last five, Tottenham won six games in January, but to who you might ask? Their only wins in the past 42 days came against either newly promoted, bottom of the table or lower league sides. When you add in the fact they will be playing without Reguilon and Aurier, things are not shaping up to be a good weekend for the Spurs.

Despite Tottenham’s frailness against the top sides, they have not lost to Manchester City in two years. Their last two head-to-head matches both finished 2-0 in favor of Tottenham, which should give them some confidence before they walk out at the Etihad. With that being said, on the run of form Manchester City are currently on, is it hard to see them losing to anybody.

Manchester City vs Tottenham Best Bet

Finally, the best bet for this match is the spread in favor of Manchester City at -1.5 (-110). City are so heavily favored that their moneyline is just not worth betting on, and Tottenham do not look like a side that can overcome the league leaders at the moment.

It is hard to even put into words how dominating Pep’s side is. You could say they took a holiday last season, but after doing some great business in the transfer window, they look reformed and rejuvenated to go on and lift silverware again. I expect Manchester City to not only win this game but to win it by a handful, just like they did against Liverpool last weekend.

My Pick: Manchester City -1.5 (-110)
