  • On Sunday, March 8th, Manchester United will host fellow neighbors Manchester City at Old Trafford
  • The Premier League title is out of reach for both squads, however, Manchester United is desperately fighting to stay in the last Champions League place

This weekend, Premier League fans will be treated to the 182nd Manchester Derby hosted by the Red Devils, Manchester United. While the tie does not have the weight it has had in years past, the match could help decide who lands in those European qualifying spots. Both teams are on spells of much-improved form and United can contribute theirs to newcomer Bruno Fernandes.

Despite traveling across the city and having to play without key defender Aymeric Laporte, Pep Guardiola’s Man City side is tuned perfectly for the matchup. After winning their first piece of silverware this season against Aston Villa in the League Cup, they will be hungry to carry that form into Old Trafford on Sunday. They are also currently in action against Sheffield Wednesday in FA Cup 5th Round play this afternoon.

Manchester City Still One of the Best in Europe

While it has not been a perfect season by any means for City, nothing has really changed for them. Despite the rough patches in form, they still have the ability to come out and throttle teams by six goals as they showed against Aston Villa last month. Now, they are putting together a string of quality victories against sides like Leicester City and Real Madrid both away from home.

There is no doubt the Premier League is out of reach for them; Liverpool will be champions. But they will still be fighting for their pride when it comes to Manchester bragging rights in this game. Not to mention they will still want to remain in the top four if their appeal against UEFA gets turned over, they have to turn up for the rest of the season despite the hardships.

Manchester United Looks Threatening With Bruno

The Manchester United before winter break could be the United of old now. Ole shook off a little bit of his dead weight, and added Bruno Fernandes from Sporting CP, a creative midfielder full of talent. In just four games he has two goals and two assists, proving he can be a deadly weapon for their attack. In addition to this, Manchester United have not lost a game since January 29th against this exact side in the League Cup.

Best Bet

The best bet for this match is tricky. The last six times these sides have played in the league Manchester City have won four out of six. On paper, it is easy to predict that Guardiola’s men will win easily, but this United team are playing like a totally different group of players. Their defense has been more than solid as of late, and their offense is finally ticking more like it should, even though they have to play without arguably their best player, Marcus Rashford.

This, combined with City only scoring only seven goals out of their last six matches, proves to me that betting the “Under” for total goals is the best bet on the table. At -128, it still has relatively good value, and all of the signs are pointing towards a defensive showcase.

My Pick: Total Goals Under 3 (-128)
