  • On Tuesday, February 9th at 2:30 PM EST, Manchester United host West Ham at Old Trafford in the 5th round of England’s FA Cup
  • West Ham look to win their first away FA Cup tie since 2006 in a 2-1 match against Manchester City in the Northwest of England
  • Currently, Manchester United are the heavy favorites with a moneyline of -167. See our best bet for the match below

After beating arch-rivals Liverpool in a 3-2 tie at Old Trafford, Manchester United now host West Ham in the fifth round of the FA Cup. Meanwhile, West Ham defeated Doncaster Rovers from League One by a score of 4-0 to get to this point in the competition and look hungry to win some sort of silverware this season. Both of these sides have had great Premier League runs so far compared to their likely expectations at the start of the campaign. Man U vs West kicks off at 2:30 pm EST on Tuesday.

Thanks to the creativity of midfielder Bruno Fernandes, Manchester United sit in second place in the Premier League table, just five points below their cross-town rivals. Meanwhile, West Ham look like a changed side under manager David Moyes, as they currently sit in the sixth position, only the same number of points below their Tuesday opponents. History will be on the side of Manchester United on Tuesday as they have advanced in the FA Cup the last three times they have played the Irons. Regardless, it should be a great match between two of the best sides in England currently.

Red Devils Look to Shake Off Volatile Form

While advancing in the FA Cup will be their most imperative objective on Tuesday, Manchester United will also be looking forward to just putting a foot in the right direction. After a stunning loss to the Blades at home in the Premier League, United dropped points again in a stalemate against Arsenal. Nonetheless, the match after they were somehow able to put nine past Southampton, utilizing seven goal scorers. However, they followed it up this weekend with a clunker against Everton, drawing 3-3 after leading in the game twice.

This Manchester United side reminds me of Liverpool without Virgil van Dijk, all gas and absolutely no brakes. They could come out on Tuesday and rock West Ham into next week because do not get it twisted, their offense is electric. But, West Ham is a tricky nut to crack and they have the ability to counter with Michail Antonio leading the charge.

West Ham are Shockingly Underrated

Additionally, it is no surprise, that Manchester United are the heavy favorites to win Tuesday’s FA Cup contest. Historically, it all makes sense. West Ham are winless in their last 15 matches at Old Trafford, and Manchester United have won eight straight FA Cup games at home. However, this West Ham side is disciplined and much different than in prior years. Despite drawing to Fulham this weekend, they were on a great run of form beating Crystal Palace and Aston Villa recently while also challenging Liverpool for 45 minutes.

Tomas Soucek’s red card at the weekend was overturned meaning he can also play on Tuesday. While the Irons will be without Jesse Lingard due to parent club restrictions, their side is incredibly strong. Furthermore, it will take quite a bit of effort to get by Soucek and Declan Rice in the midfield. Not to mention, West Ham’s left side pairing of Aaron Cresswell and Angelo Ogbonna is extremely tough.

Man U vs West Ham Best Bet

Overall, this FA Cup tie is a tough one to decisively call, given how heavily favored Manchester United are. The odds seem to forget how good West Ham have been this year, and that the last six times these sides have played, each team has won two and drawn two. With that being said, Manchester United have been very volatile as of late, and their defense still gets shaken down left and right. Against a physical striker like Antonio, I am not so sure they can fully cope with the challenge. They have also had their struggles at home in the past year, which is why I am choosing the underdog to win this match and advance in the FA Cup.

My Pick: West Ham moneyline (+415)
