Matchday 9 of the Euro 2020 qualifiers is upon us. Our focus in this piece is on the matches on Friday November 15th as teams look to book their place in next summer’s continental tournament, which will be hosted all over Europe for the first time.

Italy, boasting a 100% record in the group, face Bosnia-Herzegovina in Group J, while Sweden and Romania face each other in a huge match in Group F. Switzerland, meanwhile, currently sit third behind Republic of Ireland and Denmark, but they’ll view their clash with Georgia as a great opportunity to take control of the group.

Group J – Italy vs Bosnia and Herzegovina Odds

Team Spread Moneyline Odds Total
Italy -0.5 (+120) +120 O 2.5 (-124)
Bosnia and Herzegovina +0.5 (-154) +281 U 2.5 (+165)
Draw N/A +263 N/A

All odds taken Nov. 12

Roberto Mancini’s side have been miles clear of the rest of the group. With eight wins from eight, Italy tied up qualification with plenty of time to spare and have locked up top spot already. They beat Bosnia and Herzegovina in Turin earlier in the group – Italy had to work hard for the 2-1 victory, but they dominated the ball throughout and deserved the eventual winner when Marco Verratti found the net in the 86th minute.

Despite elite-level talent in Edin Dzeko and Miralem Pjanic, Bosnia and Herzegovina have massively disappointed. Their home form has been okay, but their away record has as good as ruled them out of contention. Defeat to Greece in their last outing put them five points behind second-place Finland with two matches to play.

Italy have racked up 25 goals in their eight qualifying matches. Bosnia and Herzegovina have seen over 2.5 goals hit in seven of their eight so far. Over 2.5 total goals looks a good bet at -124, and both teams to score at -145 is tempting value.

Pick: Over 2.5 total goals at -124

Group F – Sweden vs Romania Odds

Team Spread Moneyline Odds Total
Sweden -0.5 (+150) +159 O 2.5 (+130)
Romania +0.5 (-200) +187 U 2.5 (-163)

Arena Nationala in Bucharest will host a showdown between Sweden and Romania. With Sweden facing the Faroe Islands in their final group match, Romania need victory in this one to stand any chance of overtaking the Swedes, who are currently in second with a point advantage. Romania face Spain on Matchday 10.

These two sides met in the first match of the group, with Sweden taking victory 2-1. Romania have only suffered one other defeat in the competition since then, and that was a narrow loss to Spain back in September. Both teams have been very secure defensively, and it will be fascinating to see how Romania approach this match knowing they need a victory.

Romania aren’t blessed with established international goal scorers and suffered a real blow when they drew with Norway in October. Breaking down this Sweden defense will not be easy for the Romanians, though Reading’s George Puscas will pose a threat. The 23-year-old has scored twice in his last three internationals.

This feels like a good match to sit on the fence with. Sweden are a hard side to beat, and a draw should see them qualify (assuming they see off the Faroe Islands on Matchday 10).

Pick: Draw at +225

Group D – Georgia vs Switzerland Odds

Team Spread Moneyline Odds Total
Georgia +1.5 (+141) +1600 O 2.5 (-146)
Switzerland -1.5 (-179) -699 U 2.5 (+110)
Draw N/A +1700 N/A

There’s everything to play for in the ultra-competitive Group D. Fourth-placed Georgia are only four points behind group-leading Republic of Ireland. Denmark are level with Ireland, while Switzerland sit one point behind. Switzerland, who have a game in hand on Ireland, can go top of the group with victory in St. Gallen on Friday. Georgia needs a win to keep their chances of qualification alive as this is their last match of the campaign.

These two sides opened the group against each other, and it was a real mismatch. Switzerland only won 2-0, but they had over 60% possession and registered a whopping 24 attempts on goal compared to Georgia’s six. The gap in quality should be obvious again on Friday.

Switzerland were expected to qualify from the group before the campaign began. Defeat to Denmark during the last international break threatened that somewhat, but it would still be a shock if they miss out. A comfortable victory is likely for the hosts, and -1.5 looks a pretty solid bet at -179.

Pick: Switzerland (-1.5) at -179
