The win over Brighton was timely for the Toon, who had recently dropped points against Arsenal and Leeds United, and manager Eddie Howe will now believe that his men can get the job done without relying on needing points in their final game of the season.
The St James’ Park factor will be huge on Monday and will add to an already massive challenge for struggling Leicester, with Newcastle winning five of their last six on their home patch.
Bleak Outlook for Leicester City
Things look bleak for Dean Smith’s Leicester, especially after suffering the embarrassment of a 3-0 home defeat on Monday at the hands of Liverpool – a result that left them rooted in the EPL’s bottom three. After a bright start, the Foxes had the wind taken out of their sails when Curtis Jones gave the Reds the lead. They never recovered.
Results over the weekend also conspired against Leicester, especially Nottingham Forest’s surprise home win over Arsenal – a result that handed the title to Man City. It means that Forest are virtually safe and the remaining relegation places will be filled by two of Leicester, Leeds, and Everton.

Seven Without a Win on the Road
The Foxes’ board’s decision to replace Brendan Rodgers with Smith hasn’t paid dividends and despite a three-game mini-run that gave them cause for optimism, they now find themselves staring relegation in the face. In particular, they are struggling defensively, conceding eight goals in their last two games.
Their away form is also a huge concern, having gone seven without a win on the road, and worth noting too is that they have lost their last three against the Toon, including a 2-0 defeat in the quarterfinal of the EFL Cup.
