  • Manchester United remain favorites to win the Europa League for second time in four seasons with odds of +350 after round of 32
  • German clubs Eintracht Frankfurt, Wolfsburg and Bayer Leverkusen have all seen their odds slashed after round of 32, with Frankfurt, in particular, moving from +4333 to +1400

Much like this season’s Champions League, there are seemingly no clear-cut favorites to win the Europe League. European giants Manchester United and Inter Milan remain the front-runners, but behind them are a number of intriguing choices, such as Wolves, who are back in the competition for the first time since finishing as runners-up in 1972.

More intriguing still are the slashed odds on some of the teams following the round of 32. All three German clubs remaining have seen their odds improve dramatically, with Eintracht Frankfurt, in particular, moving from an average of +4333 to +1600 in the Europa League odds.

Blossoming Bundesliga

No teams saw their odds improve as dramatically as the three German clubs left in the competition. Wolfsburg’s average odds moved from +4333 to +2800 after a 5-1 aggregate win over Malmo; Bayer Leverkusen’s moved from +2400 to +800 after their 5-2 aggregate win over Porto, and Eintracht Frankfurt are now up to +1600 after their 6-3 two-legged victory over Red Bull Salzburg.

While Wolfsburg and Frankfurt remain extreme longshots though, Bayer Leverkusen represents decent value currently at +800. Currently fifth in the Bundesliga, they are very much in the hunt for a Champions League place for next season, and they’ve shown they can win big European games, having already beaten Atletico Madrid in the Champions League group stage before Christmas.

In addition, having been drawn against Glasgow Rangers in the last 16, a berth in the quarterfinals should very much be theirs for the taking.

Porto manager Sergio Conceicao was certainly impressed with the German club in the round of 32, calling the German club “the best we have faced in this competition.”

A Spanish Duo

Outside of the Bundesliga trio though, the two remaining Spanish teams in the competition have a certain amount of intrigue.

While Sevilla’s resume in this competition is almost second-to-none, having won the competition a record five times – all within the last 15 years no less – the club actually saw its odds move out from +617 to +700 after its away-goals victory over CR Cluj in the previous round.

And while they lack the credentials of their Spanish rivals, Getafe have shown some decent form in this year’s Europa League, most notably defeating last season’s Champions League semifinalists Ajax 3-2 on aggregate in the last round. As a result, Getafe have seen their odds move from +4667 to +1600.

However, Getafe will have their hands full in the last 16, having been handed a tie with Inter Milan, while Sevilla also faces a trip to Italy and a date with Roma. Both are in good shape ahead of those matchups, with the pair currently sixth and fifth respectively in La Liga and in a close battle with Real Sociedad and Atletico Madrid for a top-four finish.

Tearing Through Europe

They may have gone 39 years between European campaigns, but Wolves are wasting little time making the most of it.

As if finishing second in their Europa League group wasn’t enough – just a point behind Braga – the less-heralded Premier League club still in the competition made short work of their round-of-32 opponent, routing Espanyol 4-0 at home in the first leg on their way to a 6-3 aggregate victory.

Their reward? They’ve been handed a last-16 matchup with Olympiacos, the conquerors of Arsenal, and have seen their odds of winning the whole thing move from +1167 to +600.

The team continues to ride high in the Premier League too, currently sitting in eighth place on 39 points but just two points back of fifth-placed Manchester United and the possible Champions League berth that could be awaiting the fifth-placed team if Manchester City’s European ban is upheld.

Best bets: Bayer Leverkusen (+800) and Wolves (+600)
