Aguero’s Departure Creates Void in City Lineup

The imminent departure of Sergio Aguero has been a key factor in Manchester City’s rise to the top of the Harry Kane odds. The Argentine striker announced in late March that he would be leaving the club this summer, likely for Barcelona, after a decade in Manchester. Keen to find a long-term replacement for Aguero, City have reportedly thrown a wide net in their search, with rising star Erling Haaland also mentioned as a possible target for the reigning Premier League champions.

However, Kane has been candid about his admiration of City midfielder Kevin De Bruyne, whom he described in a recent interview as a “special player” and a “striker’s dream” when asked which player would help him score the most goals.

Kane Motivated by Success

City’s recent success is likely also a big motivator for Kane. Premier League champions in three of the past four seasons, the Citizens have become a familiar presence in the UEFA Champions League. That has been no different this season, with the club poised to claim their first UCL title when they hit the pitch against Chelsea for Saturday’s Champions League final as favorites. The Citizens have also emerged as the early favorites to repeat as EPL champions next season.

The Spurs’ recent record pales in comparison. While Tottenham has qualified for European play in each of the past 10 seasons, they will be on the outside next season after closing out their EPL campaign below the line, in seventh place.

Chelsea, Manchester United in the Hunt

Also in the market for a striker, and set to return to the Champions League next season, Chelsea FC have emerged as an intriguing dark horse in the Harry Kane sweepstakes. With Tammy Abraham coming off a disappointing campaign, potting just six goals in 22 appearances after potting 15 a year ago, the Blues are in the market for an upgrade.

The rumor mill has suggested that Chelsea would be prepared to offer a package of players that includes Abraham and goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga, among others. The question is whether the Blues are prepared to also pony up a massive transfer fee that observers expect could reach well into nine figures.

The same question applies to Manchester United, who would appear to be a good fit for the English captain. United also enjoys a wealth of talent with which to surround Kane, most notably, Edison Cavani, Marcus Rashford and Mason Greenwood. The Red Devils will also return to action in Europe next season, earning a Champions League berth with their second-place finish on the EPL table.

Europe a Longshot

There are also plenty of European clubs that would love to add Kane to their lineup. Real Madrid leads the way as a +200 bet, ahead of Paris Saint-Germain at +2500, and Barca at +2800. Indeed, a Kane would fit in nicely with Real, who could tempt the Spurs with a package that includes Luka Jovic and Gareth Bale. However, the challenge for Real would be to convince Kane, who has stated his preference to remain in England, to make the move to the continent.

All indicators point to Kane heading to Manchester City. However, with the Blues following through on their commitment to remain competitive with the powerhouses in the EPL, they are worthy of a value wager to have Kane in blue by the start of September.

The Pick: Chelsea FC (+400)
