The 29th round of La Liga play is ready to get back to action once again during the midweek as Osasuna host Atletico Madrid on Wednesday at 4:00 pm EST. Madrid and Osasuna are both coming off 1-1 draws this past weekend against Athletic Bilbao and Real Sociedad respectively and will both be looking to make a move up the table with three potential points.

After a three month hiatus, both teams had a fair amount of rust to shake off, which will make it interesting to see how they fare on Wednesday night. As they sit in sixth place, Atletico and Diego Simeone will be wishing on the stars for a top four finish this season.

History Is on the Side of Atletico

Atletico Madrid remains only one point behind fourth place. But, losing the momentum from their tremendous Champions League victory at Anfield, could spell trouble for Atletico. In their remaining ten games, they still have to play Barcelona, Getafe and Real Sociedad, making mid-table games like this one all the more important to achieve victory.

Historically speaking, Atletico has the advantage, having won four out of the last five matchups with Osasuna. The combined scored from their last five games was 10-4, and the last time Osasuna got a positive result was in 2016 with a 3-0 drubbing. Unfortunately for Osasuna, Simeone will have 20-year-old golden boy Joao Felix back in his control on Wednesday, making history ever the more likely to repeat itself.

The Two Sides Are Offensively Close, Statistically

Nonetheless, despite being separated by 11 points in the table, these two sides have performed quite evenly offensively this year in La Liga competition. They do not score that much, and often times pack it in to try and avoid goals coming in the opposite direction.

However, many times that these two teams play, the games have three goals, especially recently. Betting the ‘Under’ for this game does not have great value and would turn into a push if the game does not end up with a score of 0-0, or 1-0 to either side. Usually, one of these teams pulls away and scores some goals, and with a game finally under their feet, expect there to be much less dust on their boots.

Best Bet

Finally, the best bet for this match is the ‘Over’ at two goals with odds of -119. These odds have more value than just betting the moneyline on Atletico, and are still the most likely to happen on the table. Given Osasuna’s form before the break, it is just too risky to assume they will come out and put on a good showing here. However, with Diego Costa scoring and Felix back, Atletico should be confident in their chances to win, especially with the Champions League next season hanging in a delicate balance.

My Prediction: Over 2 Goals (-119)
