Aubameyang Carries Over Momentum From Last Season

Aubameyang closed out last season with five goals in his final five league matches, and has kept pace in the new season, finding the back of the net in six of Arsenal’s first eight contests, highlighted by a two-goal performance in the club’s 2-2 draw with Burnley FC on September 15.

Last season’s Premier League Golden Boot winner, Aubameyang has been key to the early-season success of the Gunners, who currently sit third on the EPL table with a 4-3-1 win-draw-loss record.

Last season’s Premier League Golden Boot winner, Aubameyang has been key to the early-season success of the Gunners, who currently sit third on the EPL table with a 4-3-1 win-draw-loss record.

Aubameyang’s seven goals leaves him just one back of Sergio Aguero and Tammy Abraham, who lead the league with eight goals apiece, and put him on pace to top the league-leading 22 goals he tallied in 36 appearances last season.

Secondary Scoring a Concern for Arsenal

Aubameyang will be poised to pad his goal count as the Gunners continue what has been a favorable early-season schedule on October 21 against 13th-place Sheffield United. His seven goals representing over 50% of Arsenal’s total offensive output.

But while the lack of secondary scoring could arise as an obstacle for the Gunners in their bid to maintain a spot above the line on the EPL table, it has yet to become a hindrance to Aubameyang.

Aguero Leads Vaunted City Attack

Secondary scoring support is not a problem for Aguero, who has combined with his Manchester City teammates to score a league-leading 27 goals through eight matches this season.

The Premier League’s top goalscorer in 2014/2015, Aguero is on pace to establish a career-high in goals scored this season after becoming the first player in Premier League history to score in each of the first six matches of the season, potting eight goals during that stretch.

The 31-year-old has scored 20 or more goals in each of the past five seasons, and entered the campaign listed as a -115 bet to score Over 21.5 goals in EPL season props wagering at sportsbooks. However, Aguero has been silent in City’s past two outings, and must avoid the types of injuries that limited him to just 31 appearances last season.

Abraham Scoring in Bunches

As for Abraham, he is coming off an impressive campaign in the Championship with Aston Villa last season, scoring 26 times in 40 appearances.

The 22-year-old London native has shown glimpses of his upside by scoring eight times, but his scoring has come in bunches, recording three straight multi-goal outings, while being held off the scoresheet on four occasions. That raises doubts as to whether the Chelsea star can maintain the pace over the long haul. As a result, he lags in the top goalscorer odds at a lengthy +800.

Salah, Kane Remain Among Favorites

Other notables on the EPL Golden Boot odds include Mohamed Salah, who remains at a strong +650 despite only scoring four times this season while hobbled by injury, and Tottenham Hotspur’s Harry Kane, who has five goals to his credit, and closely trails Aubameyang at +500.

But with the quarter mark of the season fast approaching, it is tough to discount the impressive consistency that Aubameyang has shown to date. And it is important to note that prolific goal scoring is nothing new for him. Aubameyang also enjoyed a 31-goal Bundesliga campaign with Borussia Dortmund three years ago, and still maintains value as a bet to repeat as top goalscorer.

Pick: Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to be EPL top goalscorer this season (+450)
