The Parisians are fresh off a shock defeat to Nantes over the weekend, while Lille played to a scoreless draw with Monaco.

This is the second time these two sides will clash this term, having tied back in December in league play.

PSG Gunning for Another Coupe de France Title

Paris are the most winningest outfit in the French Cup, having won it all 13 times and in five of the last six years, including 2020. However, Lille poses a very real threat to PSG in the last 16. They find themselves at this point after a convincing 3-0 result against Brest in the round of 32 thanks to a brace from Kylian Mbappe.

Domestically, Mauricio Pochettino’s side isn’t in the greatest form currently though. The European giants are just 3-0-2 in their last five appearances, including defeats to Monaco and as previously mentioned, Nantes.

It was a very underwhelming performance for PSG, especially considering their opponents are hanging on for dear life at the bottom of the Ligue 1 table. But more importantly, it was a failed chance for them to gain ground on Lille and overtake top spot. However, a clash with their rivals is just weeks away after this cup fixture and will certainly have major implications in the title race.

Undoubtedly, Paris will be focused on winning the league, but if they can move past Christophe Galtier’s men on Wednesday, only Monaco and Lyon, potentially, would be standing in their way to a 14th Coupe de France trophy.

PSG will be missing several key players for this fixture though, with Moise Kean and Ander Herrera both not quite ready to feature after recovering from injuries. Neymar remains out as well, while Marquinhos and Angel Di Maria could miss this match after their homes were robbed during the Nantes clash.

Lille Looking for the Double

The last time LOSC won this competition was in 2011 where they beat PSG in the final. That was also the year of their last Ligue 1 title. This term, Lille has a shot at pulling off the double again.

Paris is certainly a tough opponent, there’s no question. But Galtier’s side is coming up against the Parisians at the best possible time after an unlikely defeat. Lille’s backline has been phenomenal this season, conceding a league-low 17 times in just 29 matches.

In the final third, their trio of Jonathan Bamba, Jonathan David, and Burak Yilmaz is clinical, combining for 24 goals. This side has a very well-balanced attack, with several others playing their part in front of net.

Lille beat fourth-tier Gazelec Ajaccio in the last 32 to progress to the round of 16. Monaco managed to hold them to just a point on Sunday though and frankly, LOSC was outplayed. They had just 37-percent possession while stringing together much fewer passes than their counterparts and having only two shots on target.

But, on the whole, Lille has looked terrific this term and will definitely be motivated to collect some hardware. Just like PSG, the focus will be on Ligue 1, but the French Cup is also a surefire opportunity to win a trophy.

Galtier is looking at a completely healthy squad ahead of Wednesday which is also a clear positive.

PSG vs Lille Best Bet

PSG has enjoyed nothing but success in this clash, losing just once in the last 10 meetings between the two. But, this is a much different Lille side compared to even last season. However, even with Paris dealing with their fair share of absences, the hosts have more depth and experience to collect a victory here.

It’s not that Lille doesn’t have the ability to beat PSG, I just believe their focus will be shifted more to the title race. Expect it to be a close one though.
