Tough Start for Marsch

It has been a very tricky start to life in Leipzig for their new coach Jesse Marsch, who replaced the successful Julian Nagelsmann in the summer. Not only are Leipzig bottom of Champions League Group A with no points, but they are also down in eighth place in the Bundesliga with a 4-3-3 record after ten games.

RB did however put in an impressive display in the away tie in Paris and were desperately unlucky to come away with a 3-2 defeat. For a spell, it looked as if they could be heading home from the  Parc des Princes with a win after goals from Nordi Mukiele and Andre Silva had canceled out Kylian Mbappe’s 9th-minute opener, but two goals late on from the great Lionel Messi secured the win for the Parisiens.

Brave Performance By Leipzig in the Parc Des Princes

The performance in Paris is by some way RB’s best in this competition so far, with a 6-3 hammering on opening day by Man City being followed by an equally disappointing but slightly less bruising 2-1 home defeat by Brugge on Matchday 2. The gap to third-placed Brugge in the group table is four points, so regardless of the outcome here the Germans will not lift themselves off the bottom but it would keep alive, just, their faint hopes of making it to the knockout phase or, possibly, a place in the Europa League.

Unfortunately for Marsch’s team, they do not come into this game in a great place after missing out on what would have been a vital win at the weekend against Eintracht Frankfurt. Despite leading for nearly an hour thanks to a goal from Yussuf Poulsen, they conceded an equalizer in the fourth minute of added-on time. and so were denied the three points.

To get to the top of the group is a very long shot for RB and they do not even have some good home form to fall back on, as they have been uncharacteristically inconsistent in the Red Bull Arena. They have, however, won their last two there against Bochum and Greuther Furth.

PSG On Course for Glory

With a squad packed full of expensively acquired world-class superstars, PSG is expected to go deep in this tournament while also regaining their Ligue 1 title from Lille, and as things stand Mauricio Pochettino’s side look well on course to do both. Domestically, they lead Ligue 1 by eight points after only 12 games with a 10-1-1 record, so it is already their’s to lose and they reaffirmed their domination at the weekend by beating Lille 2-1.

Their form has been good in the UCL too and they head a group that also contains the highly fancied Man City, who they beat 2-0 on Matchday 3. Their only dropped points came on opening day when they drew 1-1 in Brugge, but it is their 3-2 home win over Leipzig on Matchday 3 that has the most relevance to this game. It showed that RB is definitely not to be underestimated.

No Wins in Two for PSG at Red Bull Arena

Heading into Wednesday’s game, PSG has won three of their last four in all competitions, although maybe worth noting is that all three wins were at the Parc des Princes. Also, they have failed to win in the Red Bull Arena on either of their last two visits and on both occasions they failed to score.

RB Leipzig vs PSG Prediction

PSG starts this game as favorites but remains in plus money, which should be of interest to bettors. Pochettino’s attacking style of play always gives the opposition a chance, and RB is quite capable of getting a goal here, but such is the quality in the PSG ranks, especially in the attacking areas, I can see them getting their first win in three in the Red Bull Arena.

Pick: PSG to win (+135) / Kylian Mbappe anytime goalscorer (+130)
