Granada Setting Sights on European Play

Undefeated in their past six matches across all competitions, including five straight league contests, the Andalusian side now sits just six points back of fourth-place on the table and their first-ever berth in the UEFA Champions League going into Monday afternoon’s Real Betis vs Granada matchup at Estadio Benito Villamarín.

Granada are coming off a huge comeback victory in their return to play last Friday, escaping with a narrow 2-1 victory over visiting Getafe that extends their unbeaten streak on home turf to seven matches. However, consistency has eluded the club on the road, where they are unbeaten in two straight outings, but have tallied just one win in their past 11 league contests.

Feeble Goalscoring Add to Road Woes

Goalscoring has been a massive concern for Granada when they play on the road. The Nazaries have scored more than one goal just twice during their current 11-match road swoon, potting just eight total goals during that stretch. That stretch of futility and feeble scoring have not helped Granada in the odds to crack the top four on the La Liga table, where they lag as +25000 longshots.

Further complicating matters for Granada is the unavailability of young midfielder Yangel Herrera, who will watch from the sidelines after picking up his 10th yellow card of the season in Friday’s victory. Herrera has played a key role in Granada’s in their return to La Liga after being relegated for two seasons. Acquired on loan from Manchester City last summer, the 22-year-old midfielder has been solid on both sides of the ball, contributing to a defense that has surrendered an average of just one goal per match so far this season.

Real Betis Search for End to Slide

However, even without Herrera in the lineup, Granada are well-positioned to end their road slump against a Real Betis. The Seville side prepares to hit the pitch on Monday as -120 chalk despite remaining mired in a dismal slump that has produced just one win in their past 10 matches across all competitions.

The Verdiblancos continued to struggle in their return to action following a three-month pause in the schedule due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The club mustered just one shot on target while dropping a 2-0 decision in last week’s Seville Derby matchup with Sevilla FC to remain just eight points clear of the relegation zone.

Porous Defense on Home Turf

And while Granada have struggled at times to fill the net, Real Betis have faced a huge challenge in shutting down opposing strikers. The club has surrendered the third-most goals in La Liga action this season, and have seen opponents score multiple times in five of their past nine outings including each of their past three home dates.

While Real Betis have been outscored by a 5-1 total margin in two straight losses to Granada, they have enjoyed success when battling the Nazaries on home turf. The Veriblancos have picked up at least a point in four straight home meetings with Granada since 2012. But with top goalscorers Loren Moron and Joaquin combining to tally just two total markers over the club’s past eight league matches, Real Betis will need the same sort of titanic effort that earned them a 2-1 win over Real Madrid back in March if they are to outlast the Nazaries.

Pick: Draw (+260), UNDER 2.5 (-125)
