Russia in Pole Position
Russia currently sits second in Group B with three points and is in a strong position going into game 3, knowing a point will almost certainly guarantee them a place in the round-of-16. Denmark, by contrast, is in a must-win situation, and even three points here still may not be enough to take them through – depending on their goal difference.

All Kasper Hjulmand’s Danes can realistically do is to try and win this game, rely on Belgium to beat Finland, and then hope their goal difference is good enough to get them through.

For the Russians, things are much more clear-cut and have bounced back well after their campaign got off to a disappointing start with an all-too-easy 3-0 defeat by Belgium last Saturday. They were able to regroup in midweek and their hard-fought but well-deserved 1-0 win over Finland has put them in a strong position. While, as mentioned, a draw may be enough for them – if Finland fails to overcome Belgium – a win would definitely see them through to the next phase.

If Stanislav Cherchesov’s side makes it through to the round-of-16, it will be their best result since 2008 – when they made it to the semifinals – as in 2012 and 2016 they failed to make it beyond the group stage.

Work to Do for Gutsy Denmark
For Denmark, this tournament has understandably been a difficult one to negotiate after the collapse and, mercifully, the subsequent recovery of their star man Christian Eriksen, after his cardiac arrest during their opening game against Finland. While the Danes were gutsy enough to come back out and complete that game once it became clear Eriksen was going to be okay, they were, with good reason, under par and ended up losing 1-0.

The good news is that Eriksen has now been discharged from hospital following an operation to fit a mini-defibrillator; news that will no doubt buoy the Danes ahead of this vital must-win tie.
This game is a must-win for Denmark because the 1-0 loss to Finland was followed by a 2-1 defeat by Belgium, despite them playing well in that game and after having taken an early lead through Yussuf Poulsen. In the end, the quality of the Belgians and the introduction of the classy Kevin de Bruyne made the difference on a noisy, passionate night in Copenhagen.
Hjulmand will again be looking to the Telia Parken crowd to lift his players as they look to reach the knockout round of the Euros for the first time since 2004, when they made it all the way to the quarter-finals before being eliminated by the Czech Republic.

Russia vs Denmark Best Bet
If Denmark is able to reproduce the performance level they reached against Belgium, then that could well be enough for them to achieve the two (or more) goal victory they need to give themselves a chance. In fact, if the results go their way – and Finland loses to Belgium – they could even make second, so it really is all to play for.
With the Russians potentially torn between sticking or twisting and with the Copenhagen crowd certain to be well up for this one, I see the Danes achieving the two-goal win they need.
Pick: Denmark to win 2-0 (+650)
