Both teams finished their respective seasons on a high note. Seattle (16-10-8) won its last two games. FC Dallas (13-12-9) finished the season with a much-needed 6-0 win against Sporting Kansas City, after four winless matches in a row.

Seattle has yet to beat FC Dallas this year, but historically, the better bet is for Seattle at -135.

Dallas beat the Sounders in preseason action and during the regular season 2-1 in each contest. The most recent match between the two teams at CenturyLink Field resulted in a draw.

That draw was the first point Dallas earned at CenturyLink Field since 2010, with Dallas playing solid defense against the Sounders attack.

The Sounders have scored two fewer goals this season than Dallas. Dallas had 166 shots on goal, 22 more than Seattle’s 144. Dallas is able to get the opportunities, they just need to be able to capitalize on them.

Seattle is third in MLS standings for corner kicks at 212. With the veteran power knowing how to put the ball away in big games, this could make the difference in the Round 1 match. FC Dallas is not too far off from its Pacific Northwest foe, seventh in MLS for corner kicks at 193.

Seattle Has Veteran Power

Seattle has had its best start in club history this season recording a 5-0-1 start. No story is complete without challenges and Seattle experienced a number of those throughout the season with injuries and international call-ups changing the roster, as well as the retirement of Chad Marshall.

Seattle has strong veteran players in forward Jordan Morris, goalkeeper Stefan Frei and midfielders, Cristian Roldan and Nicolás Lodeiro. All four helped lead the club to its first MLS Cup in 2016. During the 2016 playoffs, Lodeiro scored four goals in three matches and Frei had four shutouts in six matches and won MLS Cup MVP honors.

The Rave Green are grinders and can pick up clutch wins with exceptional goaltending. Plus they are a healthy team heading into the playoffs.

Sounders forward Raúl Ruidíaz leads the team in goals scored this season with 11, followed by Morris with 10 and Lodeiro with seven.

FC Dallas is on the hunt for its first MLS Cup Championship. They have momentum from the team’s final regular-season game but it likely won’t be enough to stop a Seattle playoff team. Scoring was balanced for Sporting KC in the six-goal win, with Zdenek Ondrasek scoring two goals and Matt Hedges, Santiago Mosquera, Michael Barrios and Jesús Ferriera each chipping in one goal apiece.

Ferriera leads Dallas with eight goals this season.

Seattle Gets the Edge

Both teams have balanced scoring, not like Atlanta or LAFC. It could be anyone on any given night.

Dallas has scored more goals than Seattle this season and even though Seattle has yet to beat FC, the Sounders get the edge due to a healthy veteran group that won the MLS Cup in 2016.
