A European final is here at last, as Sevilla prepares to take on Inter Milan later this week. It might not be the Champions League Final, but nonetheless it is a game that fans all over the world will be drooling over. Five-time Europa League winners Sevilla will face a rugged, new-look Inter Milan who also have an illustrious history with this competition. Both of these teams are household names in European play and have played some stellar football to get to this point.

Sevilla had the more difficult road of the two, playing Roma, Wolves and Manchester United in the knockout rounds. A late 78th-minute goal from Luuk de Jong gave Sevilla a 2-1 over the Red Devils of Manchester in what copied their fixture from 2018. Inter Milan had it easy at points in the Europa League, being tasked with playing Getafe, Leverkusen and Shakhtar before the final. A 5-0 slaughter of Shakhtar in the semifinals on Monday illustrated how deadly Lautaro Martinez and Romelu Lukaku can be for Antonio Conte’s side.

Sevilla Will Take a Low and Slow Approach

In this match, history favors Sevilla given their rich history with this competition. However, we all know that is not enough to win any final, especially against a talented offensive side like Inter Milan. Julen Lopetegui knows this, which is why he will treat this game carefully and with calmness. In Sevilla’s last six matches, they have only conceded one time. A Manchester United penalty of course.

In addition to their stout defense, they have only scored 1.33 goals on average across those games. This means Lopetegui will probably seek out an early goal against Inter Milan using his attacking combo of Lucas Ocampos and Luuk de Jong. After that, Sevilla will look to slow the game down and make Inter Milan run around the pitch in an attempt to tire them out.

Inter Milan Has Serious Attackers

While Sevilla might look to just see the game out, Inter Milan are going to look to bury it. Similarly, they too have only conceded once in their past six games. However, their offense has been sublime, scoring 2.67 goals a game. Martinez and Lukaku have been scintillating, both grabbing a brace against Shakhtar.

Milan’s midfield five allows them to bombard the wings which could test Sevilla’s defense come Friday night. With the competition still allowing five substitutions per game, Inter Milan have the option of bringing on some ridiculously good talent such as Eriksen, Sanchez and Skriniar. This could test the fitness and depth of Sevilla, especially if this fixture gets pushed to thirty minutes of extra time.

Best Bet

Finally, the best bet for this match is the Sevilla moneyline at +220. Sevilla are indeed the underdogs in the Europa League odds, but not by much. They are well suited to win this final with control and possession in their favor. High-flying football is exciting in the knockout rounds but it does not always translate to a final. Sevilla have been tested time and time again these past two weeks, and given the fact they have never lost a Europa League final, they are a solid and valuable choice.

My Pick: Sevilla win (+220)
