Sevilla vs Roma Over/Under and Spread

With the tipping point set at 2.5 goals in the game, the bookies have listed the over in plus money at +160 and the under at a much less appealing -200. By implication, they are anticipating a tight game with few goals.

Sevilla vs Roma Preview

Sevilla’s record in this competition is literally record-breaking. On six occasions they have made it to the final and on six occasions they have come away with the trophy – with their first triumph coming in 2006 when they beat Middlesbrough, and subsequent successes coming in 2007, 2014, 2015, 2016 and 2020.

They actually started the season as participants in the Champions League but a third-place finish in their saw them head back to familiar territory where, en route to the final, they had to overcome both Manchester United and Juventus. If they win the trophy again, they will have done it the hard way.

Domestic Struggle but European Joy

It has, however, been a difficult season for Sevilla on the domestic front where it took the arrival of head coach, Jose Luis Mendilibar – their third coach of the campaign – to eventually steer them clear of the relegation zone. With one game left, they could finish up anywhere between seventh and eleventh, so are likely to miss out on a European place next season.

But Sevilla and the Europa League appear made for each other and it’s hard to see their domestic struggles having any bearing on this final, especially with the win over Juve still fresh in the memory. The only other time these two have met in Europe, in the 2020 Europa League, the Spaniards were the team who progressed.

The Jose Mourinho Factor

Not for the first time in a European final, the Jose Mourinho factor comes into play. The Portuguese maestro, if he wins in Budapest, will become the most decorated manager in European soccer history. Most recently, this time last year, he led Roma to the inaugural Europa Conference League.

The Romans, aside from last season’s Europa Conference League, also have considerable experience of European finals, with Wednesday being their fifth in all the various competitions. If they win though, it will only be the second time they have lifted a European trophy.

Jose’s Last Stand?

Roma, like Sevilla, have not enjoyed the domestic success that they had hoped for but (unlike Sevilla) look set to earn themselves another shot at European soccer next season. With one round of fixtures remaining, they are currently sixth and will finish between fifth and seventh.

An interesting sub-plot to this game is that, if rumors are to be believed, this could well be Mourinho’s last game in charge of Roma. Ever the showman, he will be desperate to depart than with another winner’s trophy

Sevilla vs Roma Prediction

Sevilla’s outstanding record in this competition will be put to the test by Mourinho’s Roma, who are themselves recent experts in European cup competitions and still have that winning feeling from one year ago.

This will be tight and probably low-scoring, but the extra few moneyline points in favor of Roma make them, for me, the value bet.

Sevilla vs Roma Picks: Roma to win (+190) / Tammy Abraham anytime scorer (+300)
