Spurs were handed a bye in the third round due to a Coronavirus outbreak within Leyton Orient’s squad, while Chelsea buried Barnsley 6-0 behind a hat-trick for German starlet Kai Havertz.

Tottenham Looking for Big Win Against Blues

Spurs have lost four matches in a row against Chelsea dating back to January of 2019 and will be looking to turn their fortunes around on Tuesday. Jose Mourinho’s squad was robbed of three points when Newcastle was given a penalty kick in the dying moments of injury time on the weekend, which led to a draw. It’s been a relatively disappointing start to the term for Tottenham, going 1-1-1 so far in domestic play.

But, in the League Cup, they still have hope. The North Londoners were knocked out in the third round of the competition last year after losing in penalties to fourth-tier squad Colchester United. There’s no doubt this will be a difficult fixture for Spurs, but playing at home should give them more confidence.

Heung-min Son has already bagged four goals this year after running riot on Southampton just a week ago, where Harry Kane assisted all four. The Englishmen already has five assists to his name as well, which leads the Premier League currently. This will be Tottenham’s first League Cup game of the season after a bye in the third round.

With minimal days of recovery between matches and two mid-week fixtures for Mourinho’s side as they also play a Europa League fixture on Thursday, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see their main stars such as Kane and Son on the bench against Chelsea. The Korean picked up a small injury against the Magpies and will miss time. As for Kane, he played all 90 minutes on the weekend.

Frankly, Tottenham will be more focused on Europa and fighting for a top-four finish in the Premier League. The Carabao Cup won’t be their top priority.

Can Chelsea Continue Success Against Tottenham?

In recent memory, Chelsea has dominated Spurs, conceding just once in their last four appearances against the Lilywhites. But, they have won just twice in their last five matches when visiting Tottenham.

Lampard’s men are coming off a disappointing result against West Brom on Saturday, where they went 3-0 down in the first half, only to scratch out three goals, including an equalizer in the dying minutes, to grab a point at The Hawthorns.

Barnsley was no match for the Blues last week in the EFL Cup third round as they went on to net six, with Havertz finding his first goals for the club. However, their backline has dealt with its problems again this season, looking extremely vulnerable against West Brom and also having shaky moments against Barnsley.

Even if Tottenham doesn’t play all their top guys, Chelsea still needs to come out sharp if they want to advance to the quarterfinals of this competition. Ben Chilwell is finally set to make his debut at left-back on Tuesday and should add solidity at the back for the Blues.

Mourinho made it very clear in an interview that this week’s congested schedule will make things very difficult for Tottenham in regards to advancing in the EFL Cup.  But, the likes of Toby Alderweireld, Steven Bergjwin, Tanguy Ndombele, Sergio Reguilon, and Erik Lamela were all left out of the squad on the weekend and will be available on Tuesday.  They still have a lot of talent to choose from even with their two main attackers absent.

However, I still see Chelsea advancing in this fourth-round tie. They’ve enjoyed a lot of success against Spurs in the last year and have basically a full squad to choose from, with the exception of Christian Pulisic and Hakim Ziyech. This is going to be an entertaining fixture, but the visitors will come out on top with a one-goal victory.

Pick: Chelsea -134
