It seems as though every season ends with the Tennessee Titans falling just short of the wild card. That continued last year when the team was 7-9 in a division that included two other clubs (Jacksonville and Houston) that combined had only six wins.

Backing up the team’s mediocre record last year was the fact it ranked 21st in passing and 14 in rushing on offense. Mind you, the latter was with Chris Johnson, who is now playing for the Jets. On the defensive side of the ball, the team was a respectable: 11th against the pass and 20th against the run.

You get a sense this may be Jake Locker’s last season to win the job for good. Injured last year, the mobile QB will now have first-round tackle Taylor Lewan blocking for rookie running back Bishop Sankey.

Going into this season, the Titans face five playoff teams with an overall schedule featuring opponents boasting a .438 winning percentage last year (the second easiest schedule in the league). Also, the Titans play two sets of back-to-back road games.

Oddsmakers have the Titans at -7 (-130) for o/u wins but you may be able to find 6.5 with a better payout for the under. Naturally, that’s if you think the Titans may be a few pieces shy of battling the Colts for AFC South dominance.
