Barty is Perfect Through Six

The 25-year old’s Australian Open odds entering the tournament were listed at +275, and they just continued the shorten as the tournament went on. She’s been the favorite since the start.

The Aussie opened her tournament up against Lesia Tsurenko, where she won 6-0, 6-1, and this set the tone of what was to come from Barty. Barty has faced two seeded players in Jessica Pegula and Camila Giorgi, but no one’s been able to give her much of a fight. Through her six matches she hasn’t even come close to losing a set, and she’s only lost a total of 21 games.

In her semifinal match, she defeated American Madison Keys 6-1, 6-3 in just over an hour, and became one step closer to becoming the first Australian since 1978 to win the title at the Aussie Open.

Barty recorded 20 winners with just 13 unforced errors, to Keys’ eight winners and 24 unforced errors. On top of that the 25-year old managed five aces, and zero double faults.

Heading into the final match, it’s worth noting that the Aussie has won both of her previous Grand Slam finals. The 2019 French Open and 2021 Wimbledon.

Collins’ First Grand Slam Final

The 28-year old didn’t play any warm up tournament prior to the Aussie Open. Her last tournament was the Linz Open back in November, so she wasn’t really in much conversation leading up to the Grand Slam.

Despite not being apart of the conversation leading up to the tournament, Collins showed everyone that she should be. The American has only dropped two sets on route to the final match, and has upset the likes of Elise Mertens and most recently 2020 French Open champion Iga Swiatek.

In her semifinal match against Swiatek, it took Collins just 78 minutes to win 6-4, 6-1.

Collins hit 27 winners, with just 13 unforced errors, which allowed her to jump out to a 4-0 lead in both the first and second set. Post-match, Swiatek claimed Collins hit the fastest ball she has ever gone up against.

Ever so often there’s a Grand Slam winner that surprised everyone, and Collins is hoping to do that this year. But Barty will be the toughest competition out there.

Barty vs Collins Head-to-Head

Barty and Collins actually do know each other pretty well, having played a handful of matches. Barty holds the head-to-head edge with a 3-1 lead, but it was Collins who won their more recent match in the Round of 16 at the 2021 Adelaide 500, 6-3, 6-4. Two of Barty’s three win also went the distance, with Collins able to win a set.

Barty vs Collins Best Bet

This should be an exciting, fun match to watch, given how well both players are playing at the moment.

As mentioned, Barty is the overwhelming favorite, and that’s no surprise, but Collins is an opponent who can give her a run.

Collins, who is a strong, powerful player, relies heavily on her serving and forehands. Barty is a versatile player who brings a lot of variety to her game. She has one of the best serves in the game at the moment, which will challenge Collins.

If the American wants to have a chance, she will have to step up her game even more. Her serving will be crucial, but her mental game, will be the most important. She’s going up against the best in the world who is playing in front of a home crowd. Collins will have to do her best to try and keep the crowd out of her head.

Barty’s experience could show in this match. As mentioned, the Aussie has competed in two Grand Slam finals, and has won both. With that experience, and how she’s playing, look for the 25-year old to write her name in the history books with a tight straight set win.

Best Bet: Barty 2-0 (-180)
