Kasatkina Upsets No. 1 Seed

The 24-year old went into her semifinal match as the underdog, but managed to defeat Mertens 6-3, 6-2, in just under an hour and a half. With the win, she earned a spot in her fourth final of the season, and now leads the head-to-head against Mertens 3-1.

On a quest for her third title of the year, the Russian went on to break her opponent three times throughout the match, and never dropped her serve. Mertens helped her out with her seven double faults, an issue that has followed her throughout the tournament.

Kasatkina outplayed her opponent, recording 22 winners to Mertens’ 20, and the biggest difference was the 24-year old’s 11 unforced errors to her opponents 25.

She’ll now have another tough opponent in Collins, but she currently holds the head-to-head edge against the American.

The Favorite

Collins enters the finals coming off a dominant straight set win over her quarterfinal opponent Konjuh, winning 6-0, 6-2, in under an hour. Collins was the heavy favorite heading into the match, and managed to break Konjuh six times.

Collins entered this tournament coming off a title win at the Palermo Ladies Open, and is riding a nine-match winning streak.

She’s now the favorite to win her second title of the season as she heads into the final against Kasatkina. The 24-year old currently holds the head-to-head edge against the American, but Collins has been playing some of the best tennis since coming back from her surgery.

Head-to-Head
We have two previous meetings to go off of between these two, with their most recent matching coming earlier this year in the semifinal of the Melbourne 250. Kasatkina won in three sets. Their first match was back in 2018, where Kasatkina won the Round of 32 match in straight sets.

Best Bet

This should be an exciting match between these two players. They both are coming off strong wins where they completely dominated their opponents. Both Kasatkina and Collins have strong forehands and big groundstrokes that they’ll be relying on throughout the final match. The serve will be an interesting asset to watch from both players. It does seem like both players have been able to clean up their serve a bit throughout the tournament, and eliminate the amount of double faults committed.

Kasatkina is the higher seed and higher ranked player, but with the way Collins has been playing over the past two tournaments, she’s actually the one expected to win the match and the title.

Don’t be surprised if this match goes the distance, regardless of the winner.

Best Bet: Ov 2.5 (+140)
