Vekic Takes Down Aryna Sabalenka

Having to play the qualifiers gives Vekic a couple extra matches under her belt this week. She’s been playing some of her best tennis, that includes taking down the likes of Maria Sakkari, Karolina Pliskova, and most recently Sabalenka.

Her quarterfinal match against Sabalenka saw Vekic drop her first set of the tournament, when the third seed stole the second set off her, forcing a third. But that third set was all Vekic. She defeated Sabalenka 6-4, 7(7)-6(5), 6-1.

Collins Upsets Paula Badosa

Collins is perfect through thee, having yet to drop a set yet. She’s had a couple of sets go to tiebreaks, but has managed to defeat all three opponents without needing that decider.

Her most recent win is her most impressive, as she ended second see Badosa’s run at the tournament, winniner 7(7)-6(5), 6-4. Collins somehow managed to still secure the win despite her four aces to 10 double faults.

Second Career Meeting

Vekic and Collins have only played each other once prior to today. Their one and only meeting came back in the Round of 32 of the Miami Open in 2018. After dropping the first set, it was Collins who came back and won the match that day.

Vekic vs Collins Pick

Both Vekic and Collins will be entering the match with wins over Top 10 players this tournament, which should skyrocket their confidence.

Both players will need to tighten up parts of their game if they want to win. As mentioned earlier, Collins’ serve was less than impressive against Badosa, something that could potentially cost her in this match is she doesn’t minimize those double faults. Vekic could also tighten her game a bit. There’s really no reason why she wasn’t able to wrap up her previous match in straight sets. She’ll have to continue to work on her focus, and allow herself to bounce back quickly should something happen again.

Both players do have the ability to win this match, as both could take advantage of their opponents little mistakes that they have been making. So instead of specifying a certain winner, or a bet based on which individual will win, look for for the length of the game to be the best bet here.

Best Bet: Over 2.5 sets (+130)
