Swiatek Defeats Former Junior Partner

In the quarterfinals, Swiatek went head-to-head against Caty McNally. The two won the 2018 Junior French Open doubles and actually McNally won both of their individual junior matches.

But obviously since the two were juniors Swiatek has made quite the name for herself in the tennis world. The 21-year old is now the No. 1 ranked female player in the world, and always seems like the one to beat in any tournament she enters. So, unsurprisingly Swiatek defeated McNally 6-4, 6-4.

Ultimately McNally wasn’t able to gain any momentum against Swiatek, and the Polish star was able to take advantage of any errors she made.

Swiatek will now take on Alexandrova, who she has yet to win against.

Alexandrova Continues to Win

After upsetting fifth seed Daria Kasatkina in the second round, Alexandrova went on to defeat Tereza Martincova in three sets to earn her spot in the semifinals.

She defeated Martincova 6-1, 4-6, 6-1.

In her match against the Czech, Alexandrova landed 84 percent of her first serves, following up with a 73 win percentage when she landed those first serves. She recorded six aces with four double faults.

Second Career Meeting

Swiatek and Alexandrova have yet to play each other in 2022, but did play against each other last year. They played each other at the Melbourne 500 Gippsland Trophy in the Round of 16. Ninth seed Alexandrova defeated sixth seed Swiatek in straight sets.
