The Italian Open has reached the final four on the women’s side as No. 1 Simona Halep, No. 2 Karolina Pliskova, No. 9 Garbine Muguruza and No. 12 Marketa Vondrousova are remaining contestants.

With the semifinals upon us, let’s take a look at each match and see what the best bets are.

Halep vs Muguruza Italian Open Odds

Player Moneyline Odds Spread Total
Simona Halep -220 -3.5 (-117) Over 20.5 (-121)
Garbine Muguruza +175 +3.5 (-107) Under 20.5 (-103)

All odds as of September 19th at DraftKings

Halep is a -220 favorite to win this match and that doesn’t come as a surprise. She excels on clay, going 38-7 on the surface over the last three seasons. She’s hardly broken a sweat in this tournament as she’s yet to drop a set. She’s won all three of her matches in straight sets, losing a total of 18 games.

Meanwhile, Muguruza is also tough to beat on clay. She’s won 82% of her matches at the French Open and won the grand slam in 2016, so she definitely knows how to work the red surface. She’s lost a couple of sets at the Italian Open but it’s worth mentioning that she’s played much tougher competition than Halep.

Muguruza had to deal with Sloane Stephens in the first round – a tough opener – and then had to play Coco Gauff in the second round.

She also faced No. 7 Johanna Konta and a resurgent Victoria Azarenka. These are four tough matches to get through.

That being the case, take a small flier with her here. It feels like there’s a bit of value at +175. Halep has dusted the competition but she hasn’t faced anyone nearly as challenging as what Muguruza has had to go through. Look for Muguruza to take this in three sets.

Vondrousova vs Pliskova Italian Open Odds

Player Moneyline Odds Spread Total
Marketa Vondrousova +150 +2.5 (+100) Over 21.5 (-113)
Karolina Pliskova -182 -2.5 +124) Under 21.5 (-110)

We’ll have an all-Czech matchup in the other semifinal as No. 12 Marketa Vondrousova will take on No. 2 Karolina Pliskova.

It’s hard to know what to make of Vondrousova as she was a surprise finalist at Roland Garros last season. She was 13-3 on clay last year and that’s clearly her favorite surface. She came into this tournament 4-8 on the year, so she didn’t have momentum. Maybe she’s just found her game on clay.

Her run has been impressive but it has had ups and downs. Needing three sets with a qualifier in the opening round is concerning but a straight sets win over No. 4 Elina Svitolina – losing just three games – shows what she’s capable of.

With Pliskova, she’s had a nice run as she won her first two matches in straight sets before getting a stiff test from No. 11 Elise Mertens.

Pliskova doesn’t often make it past the third round at the French Open – only once in eight tries – so it’s not as if she’s dominant on this surface. Her 22-9 record on clay over the last three seasons indicates that she’s good but not necessarily great.

Vondrousova feels like a bit of a live dog here at +150. They’ve only met once before and Pliskova won in straight sets but it wouldn’t surprise anyone if Voundrousova came out on top this time around in two sets.
