The final match is set in Mexico and will take place later tonight with No. 1 seed Tsitsipas and No. 2 seed Zverev facing off. These two are no stranger to one another, with their head-to-head meetings dating back to 2018.
Both players are coming off strong wins against their semifinal opponents. But it’s safe to say that they will be each others toughest opponent all tournament.

Tsitsipas’s Road to the Finals
The 22-year old eased his way into the finals after a dominant showing in the semi’s match. Tsitsipas ended qualifer Lorenzo Musetti’s dream week in Mexico in just over an hour, winning 6-1, 6-3.
During his semifinal match, Tsitsipas went on to win 22 of 26 first service points and his strong forehand was on display when 17 of his 23 winners came from that shot.

The Greek superstar definitely set the tone early in the match, which caused trouble for Musetti, who likes to add variety into his game. Tied at 1-1 in the first set, Tsitsipas went on to win five straight games to close out the set in just over a half hour.
Ultimately, Tsitsipas showcased his power and ability to take control of the match. His experience definitely showed as his Italian opponent was only competing in his 12th tour-level match. This resulted in Musetti making some costly errors that contributed to Tsitsipas capturing the win.
Tsitsipas will be looking to win his first ATP 500 trophy as he takes on Zverev in the finals.
Zverev’s Road to the Finals
Zverev is no stranger to the Mexican Open. He competed in the finals here back in 2019, and made the semis the year before that. He’s entering the final match this year having not dropped a set all tournament, as his route to the finals has been fairly straightforward.
He took on fellow countrymen Dominik Koepfer in the semifinals winning 6-4, 7-6(5). Play was paused for a slight moment, as a 5.7 magnitude earthquake shook the arena for about 30 seconds during a Koepfer service game in the second set.
After the earthquake, it was Koepfer who was playing strong when he broke first to take a 3-1 lead in that second set. But it wasn’t long before Zverev was able to create break opportunities in Koepfer’s next three service games.
In a match that lasted just over two hours, Zverev didn’t have as strong of an appearance as he could have had against his opponent, but he still managed the victory.
At 23-years old, Zverev will play in his 23rd ATP Tour Final, while looking for his first title in Acapulco.
Head-to-Head
The only head-to-head meeting Zverev has won against Tsitsipas was their first meeting back in 2018. The past five meetings have been all Tsitsipas, with the last three being straight set winners.
It’s interesting because on paper, Zverev has more experience, he has more wins, more titles, but he hasn’t been able to figure out Tsitsipas. The Greek has always given him trouble.

Best Bet
This will be an exciting match. The top two seeds, and two of the Top 10 players in the world going head-to-head.
Neither player has had an extremely tough tournament. But Tsitsipas did get tested when he went up against Canadian Felix Auger Aliassime in the quarterfinals, in a match that went the distance. Zverev truly hasn’t been tested all tournament, and his quarterfinal match was a walkover.
Everything is pointing to Tsitsipas winning his first ATP 500 trophy later today, but I do think Zverev will give him some trouble. I don’t think he’ll be able to capture it in straight sets.
