Sloane Stephens vs [21] Cori Gauff Prediction

It’s an all-American matchup in the second round as Stephens takes on Gauff. This will be the first meeting between the compatriots, but the two have known each other for quite some time.

Both Stephens and Gauff are coming off three set victories in their opening matches at the US Open. Stephens went on to defeat American Madison Keys 6-3, -6, 7(9)-6(7), and Gauff defeated Magda Linette 5-7, 6-3, 6-4.

This looks to be an interesting match because Sloane has the success and experience on these courts heading into the match, but you wouldn’t know it if you were to look at the past year or so. Gauff doesn’t enter this match with the experience and success that Stephens brings, rather the high level of play she’s been bringing to the court as of late.

Regardless of who wins this match, expect it to go the distance.

Best Bet: Over 2.5 sets (+130)

Marketa Vondrousova vs [25] Daria Kasatkina Prediction

22-year old Vondrousova enters her second round match against 25th seed Kasatkina as the slight favorite. Vondrousova and Kasatkina have actually played each other a few times, with their most recent meeting happening at the 2019 Italian Open where Vondrousova won in three sets. The 22-year old currently holds the head-to-head edge with a 2-1 record.

Both players are coming off straight set wins in their opening matches. Vondrousova beat Elena-Gabriela Rus 7-5, 6-0, and Kasatkina defeated Tsvetana Pironkova 6-2, 6-1, where she recorded 19 winner to just 13 unforced errors.

Vondrousova has had a solid year, and came up with a silver medal in Tokyo, but she hasn’t been able to follow it up with that strong of a showing. She most recently lost in the quarterfinals of the Chicago Women’s Open, and lost her opening match in Cincinnati.

Funny enough, Kasatkina had that exact same outcome in the two tournaments leading up to the US Open, but as a whole on the season, she’s been more consistent, and has captured two singles titles.

Best Bet: Kasatkina (+102)

Kaia Kanepi vs Leylah Fernandez Prediction

Kanepi and Fernandez will play each other for the first time in their careers on Wednesday, in the second round of the US Open. Kanepi is competing in her 14th US Open, while Fernandez is competing in her second.

36-year old Kanepi is coming off a three set win, sending home 31st seed Yulia Putintseva, after coming back from a set down. Kanepi won 2-6, 7(7)-6(4), 6-2. Fernandez is coming off a straight set win over opponent Ana Konjuh, winning 7(7)-6(3), 6-2.

Kanepi struggled a bit out the gate, letting that first set slip away, but she managed to find her footing to break through and take the next two sets to win the match.

Fernandez managed to convert four of seven breakpoints, and land 76 percent of her first serves.

At 18-years old Fernandez is exactly half the age of Kanepi, and might have the edge here. But regardless of the winner, this is another match that we can expect to go the distance.

Best Bet: Over 2.5 setes (+116)
