Jamaica Will Be Tough to Top

Jamaica (-360) is the heavy favorite going into the finals, and the dominant relay team will be tough for any other country to overcome and upset.

Headlined by the trio of Elaine Thompson-Herah, Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce and Shericka Jackson, they will look to claim Jamaica’s second gold medal in this event. They booked a trip to the final with a time of 42.15, easing into a third-place finish in the qualifying round on Wednesday. Jamaica finished with the fifth-best time in qualifying.

Thompson-Herah, Fraser-Pryce and Jackson will be tough to take down and upset for other countries, as they all displayed their dominance in the 100 meter individual competition, where they swept the podium.

USA, Great Britain Worth Watching

Two other countries who are early favorites are the United States (+700) and Great Britain (+800).

In the qualifying round, the USA team of Javianne Oliver, Teahna Daniels, English Gardner and Aleia Hobbs recorded a time of 41.90 to take second in first heat, trailing only Great Britain.

With the second-best time in qualifying, the Americans will be interesting to watch to see if they can pull off another surprise and perhaps steal gold in the relay. Regardless, the United States should be somewhere on the podium.

Great Britain, led by Dina Asher-Smith, put together an impressive performance in Wednesday qualifying, finishing with a time of 41.55, good for first place in the first heat and the best time overall in advancing to the finals. Asher-Smith, Asha Philip, Imani Lansiquot and Daryll Neita will try and put together another strong showing to grab a medal.

Best Bet

It’s tough to go against Jamaica, given the type of team it has and the talent that is on that relay team. Jamaica will medal in the event, it’s just a matter of if another country will be able to put together a perfect performance to upset them.

If you are going to bet on a country outside of Jamaica to claim gold, go with the United States or Great Britain, as those two countries impressed in the qualifying round to finish ahead of Jamaica.

All it takes is one of those countries to put together a performance like Wednesday to upset the favorites. When the dust settles,  we will likely see Jamaica, USA and Great Britain coming away with medals — it’s just a matter of which medal each country claims.
