The 2021 French Open was scheduled for May 17-June 6, 2021 in Paris, France. On April 8, it was announced that the tournament has been delayed until May 30, amid the current state of the COVID-19 pandemic in France.

The French Open has seen a couple of first-time winners of late. Swiatek became the first Polish winner in 2020, not just of the French, but to win any Grand Slam ever. While in 2019, Ashleigh Barty claimed her first grand slam title by winning the French Open as well. There has been a different and first-time winner in each of the past five years.
