Group D present itself as one of the most complicated in the entire Brazil 2014 World Cup. Three countries that have won the competition in the past, Uruguay, Italy and England, are all involved in a fight for two spots; plus, a Cinderella squad, Costa Rica, wants to be the decisive factor of the zone.
Poor Costa Rica had a great qualifying stage, but they are likely to end up eliminated as they can’t match with the rest of the giants; however, whoever loses a point with the ‘ticos’ could be sentenced to be send home early in the tournament.
Italy has something to prove after they were eliminated in the group stage at South Africa 2010; Andrea Pirlo and Mario Balotelli will command a group that ended second in the Euro 2012, but is ready to show the world they can win in America.
Uruguay fished third four years ago; they had a tremendous run to the last four and they want to go even further in Brazil. The ‘charruas’ main character will be Luis Suarez, the Liverpool striker who is having a tremendous season in the English Premier League.
Last but not least is England, a team that hasn’t won a World Cup title since 1966 and could have problems against aggressive teams like Italy and Uruguay.
Here are the odds for Group D:
To Qualify
Italy (1/2), Uruguay (1/2), England (4/6), Costa Rica (12)
Not To Qualify
Costa Rica (1/33), England (6/5), Uruguay (7/4), Italy (15…
To Finish Bottom
Costa Rica (1/7), England (12), Uruguay (14), Italy (17)
Head to Head Odds:
June 14 | Uruguay (2/5) vs (Costa Rica (10/1), Draw (4/1)
June 14| England (21/10) vs Italy (8/5), Draw (12/5)
June 19 | Uruguay (8/5) vs England (2/1), Draw (12/5)
June 20 | Italy (6/17) vs Costa Rica (10/1), Draw (9/2)
June 24 | Costa Rica (13/2) vs England (8/15), Draw (7/2)
June 24 | Italy (6/4) vs Uruguay (23/10), Draw (47/20)
