Whether you prefer to bet on traditional powerhouses such as Duke and Kansas, or want to put some sharp money on matchups from smaller conferences, it all starts with comparing this week’s NCAAB lines. Once you’ve selected a game you want to bet on and found the sports betting app or online sportsbook with best odds, it’s time to determine which way you want to bet.
There are several metrics on this page that can help you make smarter college basketball bets without much effort:
The bet % metric shows you what percentage of the total betting volume falls on either side of the betting line. In other words, it allows you to see which side of the line is taking more action in terms of total number of wagers placed. This is the easiest way to see which side is favored by the public.
The money % metrics shows you what percentage of the total money wagered falls on either side of the betting line. In other words, it allows you to see which side of the line is attracting the biggest bets and largest share of total money wagered.

If you don’t have much experience betting on basketball, you’re likely wondering how to read the moneyline, point spread, and over/under odds found on this page. If you’ve bet on the NFL, college football, or NBA games, these odds are probably familiar to you.
Our guide to reading sports betting odds provides a full run-down of the odds for each basketball wagering type and how oddsmakers formulate them, but let’s take a look at the quick and dirty:
NCAAB Moneyline Odds
When betting the moneyline in basketball, you’re simply picking the team you think will win the game, straight up. Select “moneyline” in the feed preferences above and see moneyline odds for today’s NCAAB lines.
The positive number is the odds for the underdog. This is the amount you stand to profit if you place a $100 bet on the underdog.
The negative number is the odds for the favorite. This is the amount you’ll need to risk in order to return a $100 profit backing the favorite.
In cases with extremely close matchups, both teams may have negative odds. This is fairly unusual in college basketball, but note that the side with the larger negative number is the favorite in these cases.
NCAAB Point Spread Odds
The basketball point spread odds allows you to reasonably back either team, even in games that aren’t closely matched. Select “spread” to see the odds for this week’s college basketball spreads.
When betting the spread, the favorite “gives” points while the underdog “gets” points added to their final score. The amount of points given/taken is the spread – you’ll see this number displayed next to a (+) for the underdog (since they are getting extra points) and a (-) for the favorite (since points are being subtracted).
To cover the spread, a favorite must win the game by the margin of the point spread. An underdog covers anytime they win the game outright or lose by less than the margin outlined by the spread.
Next to the point spread, you’ll find odds like those you’d see on the moneyline. For most NCAA games, these will be in the range of -105 to -115, indicating the amount you need to risk to win $100.
NCAAB Over/Under (Totals) Odds
Say you want to want to bet a college basketball game but don’t feel particularly confident in the abilities of either team, you’ll want to take a hard look at totals betting. Commonly known as the over/under, totals betting asks you to wager on whether the final score with be over or under the total set by the oddsmakers.
Explore over/unders for upcoming NCAA basketball matchups by selecting “total” in preferences. You’ll see a large number with both (o) & (u) – this is the total. Bet on the final score to be over or under this number.
Like the point spread, you’ll see odds associated with taking the over or under. With some exceptions, expect to see these odds in the range of -105 to -115 when betting basketball totals.
You’d be forgiven for waiting till March Madness rolls around to begin betting on college basketball. But if you’re interested in playing the long game, it can pay to closely monitor the college basketball futures odds. Futures allow you to bet on major events far in advance. These bets focus on the biggest events and achievements each season.
For instance, you can pick Conference Title winners, back teams to make it to the Final Four, or even pick the overall champion winner of the NCAA Tournament.
Player futures ask you to predict the winner of awards such as the Naismith Player of the Year award.
Cashing in on these futures bets is notoriously challenging, and the strategy all comes down to timing. Payouts tend to be biggest the earlier you jump into the action, but the longer you wait, the more info you’ll have to inform your wager.
You can track futures odds for the NCAA Tournament Championship and more using SportsBettingDime’s basketball futures trackers:

Before online sports betting swept the USA, evaluating the week’s lines was all about looking at the college basketball odds in Vegas.
But as legal online sports betting becomes increasingly available in the US and elsewhere you might be wondering:
Are Vegas odds for NCAAB games any different than those offered at sport betting apps and online sportsbooks?
The odds featured on this page will generally be aligned with what you could expect to see a brick-and-mortar sportsbook in a Las Vegas casino.
More than anything, “Vegas odds” have become something of a catch-all phrase to describe the college basketball odds offered at top sportsbooks, whether betting online or in-person.
