If you want a detailed breakdown of sports betting odds and how they’re formulated by the oddsmakers, you want to visit our guide to reading sports betting odds. If you’re ready to get started betting on today’s MLB lines, the quick and dirty breakdown is below.

MLB Moneyline Odds

Betting the moneyline is the most straightforward way to bet on baseball games. All you need to do is pick the team you think will win the game, straight up. Select “moneyline” in the feed preferences above to see moneyline odds for today’s MLB games.

The positive number is the odds for the underdog. This is the amount you stand to profit if you place a $100 bet on the underdog.

The negative number is the odds for the favorite. This is the amount you’ll need to risk in order to return a $100 profit backing the favorite.

In cases with extremely close matchups, both sides might be assigned negative odds. While unusual, it’s worth noting that the side with the larger negative number is the favorite in these cases.

Get started with tips to master the MLB moneyline.

MLB Run Line (Point Spread) Odds

Chances are, you’ve heard of “covering the spread.” While point spread betting most commonly refers to betting on NFL and NBA games, baseball has its own version of the spread.

When it comes to baseball games, the MLB point spread is more commonly called the run line.

When betting the run line, the favorite “gives” points while the underdog “gets” points added to their final score. The amount of points given/taken is the spread – you’ll see this number displayed next to a (+) for the underdog (since they are getting extra points) and a (-) for the favorite (since points are being subtracted).

Unlike MLB, NBA, and many other sports, the run line is generally set at the same amount: 1.5 points are taken from the favorite and given to the underdog.

In these cases, a favorite must win the game by at least two runs to cover the run line. An underdog covers anytime they win the game outright or lose by less than two.

Next to the run line, you’ll find odds like those you’d see on the moneyline. For most MLB games, these will be in the range of -105 to -115, indicating the amount you need to risk to win $100.

MLB Over/Under (Totals) Odds

So, you want to get down some action of an MLB game but don’t want to back one side over the other. Totals betting allows sports bettors to do just that. Commonly known as the over/under, totals betting asks you to wager on whether the final score with be over or under the total set by the oddsmakers.

Note that seven and nine are the most common total scores in MLB games. Looking for teams that tend to have low-scoring or high-scoring games can give you a leg up betting MLB totals.

Explore over/unders for today’s MLB games by selecting “total” in preferences. You’ll see a number with both (o) & (u) – this is the total. Bet on the final score to be over or under this number of goals.

Like the MLB spread, you’ll see odds associated with taking the over or under. With some exceptions, expect to see these odds in the range of -105 to -115 when betting baseball totals.

You can combine the wager types listed above by betting a parlay. MLB parlays allow you to combine multiple picks in a single wager. The risk is higher when betting parlays, but so are the rewards.

MLB Playoffs & World Series Odds

The MLB postseason is one of the best times to put down some action wagering on baseball games. As excitement builds towards the World Series, so does the action betting on MLB futures odds. Futures bets focus on the biggest events and achievements Major League Baseball has to offer.

For instance, you can bet MLB playoff odds from chances to make the postseason, win divisional titles, take the ALCS/NLCS, and go all the way to the World Series final.

Player futures ask you to predict the winner of awards such as AL/NL Rookie of the Year, MLB MVP, and Cy Young Award.

Cashing in on these futures bets is notoriously challenging, and the strategy all comes down to timing.  Payouts tend to be biggest the earlier you jump into the action, but the longer you wait, the more info you’ll have to inform your wager.
