The NFL has such a grip on sports bettors and fans that even the release of its regular-season schedule is a major event.

The NFL schedule was released on May 14, and even though the games were four months away, it was the talk of social media and talk radio, even with the NBA and NHL Playoffs in full swing.

This page has everything you need to know about the 2025 NFL schedule, including how it’s built, and a team-by-team listing of the weekly NFL games.

How the NFL Schedule is Built

The NFL schedule is not randomly built, but with just three divisional opponents for each team to play, and 17 matchups to fill, there’s quite a bit that goes into it.

Here’s how NFL scheduling works:

  • Home and away games against three divisional opponents (six games).
  • Four games against the teams in another division within the conference on a rotating, three-year cycle.
  • Four games against the teams in another division from the other conference on a rotating, four-year cycle.
  • Two games against teams from the same conference, but different divisions, and one from the other conference, who placed in the same spot. For example, the Detroit Lions were NFC North champions, so they would play teams that placed first in their respective divisions (three games).
