[5] Kiki Bertens vs Martina Trevisan

Fifth seed and world number eight, Kiki Bertens will face unseeded Martina Trevisan in the fourth round of the French Open. Bertens is the favorite going into the match despite some early hiccups in the tournament.

Bertens has played some long, tough matches through the first few rounds. Her second round match took more than three hours to finish, and she was wheeled off at the end of it due to cramping. But come the third round, it looked like everything had been taken care of, and Bertens defeated her opponent in less than an hour, building momentum going into this match.

Since her most recent breakthrough at the Australian Open earlier this year, Trevisan hasn’t been able to find that success again, until now. She surprised everyone winning her first round match, and most recently defeated Maria Sakkari after going a set down.

This will be the second time these two players have seen each other. The first time came last year at the Charleston Open where Bertens won in straight sets. She’s the favorite to win, and it’s quite possible she does it in straight sets.

Best Bet: Bertens (-335)

Nadia Podoroska vs Barbora Krejcikova

Both players were considered underdogs coming into the tournament, both have upset their opponents up until this point, and neither were expected to make it this far.

Podoroska has the better clay record in 2020, with a 23-3 win record. Making her French Open debut, she’s had herself a great tournament so far, with her defense being the star of her show. The Argentinian beat her most recent opponent in straight sets.

Krejcikova has played well so far as well at the tournament. She struggled a little bit in her previous match after losing the first set, but was able to fight back. One could argue that she does perform better in doubles, but she’s had success as a singles player on clay, posting a 9-3 record in 2020.

This will be the first meeting between the two, making for an interesting match. And both are ranked in the 100’s in the WTA standings. It’s looking to be that Podoroska has the momentum and upper hand that will allow her to move onto the quarterfinals. But expect this to go the distance.

Bet Bet: Podoroska (-170)

[3] Elina Svitolina vs. Caroline Garcia

Home favorite Garcia looks to advance to the quarterfinals of the French Open, but will have to get through No. 3 seed, Svitolina. Garcia has already beat the likes of Elise Mertens and Anett Kontaveit in the earlier rounds of the tournament, surprising many.

Svitolina is no stranger to the French Open, looking to book her ticket to the quarterfinals as she did in 2015 and 2017. She’s been struggling a bit at the tournament, showing inconsistencies in her previous matches, specifically with her serve. But she’s been able to stay in her matches with her strong defense.

This will be the fifth meeting between the two players. Garcia currently holds a 3-1 lead over Svitolina. But it’s worth noting that the two haven’t faced each other since the Stuttgard Open in 2018.

This is a match that could go either way. Svitolina’s higher rank and play leading up to the French Open shows how much she’s grown as a player since the last time these two met. But she’s always struggled against Garcia. Garcia’s game is favorable on clay, with might lead to an upset in the last match of the day tomorrow. Expect it to go three sets.

Best Bet: Garcia (+143)
