The Oklahoma City Thunder has no other option but to win tonight, or their run to the title will be cut early as they face Memphis Grizzlies in game 6 of the NBA first round playoffs, this Thursday at 8 PM ET at the Fedex Forum.
The series is 3-2 in favor of the Grizzlies after they stole game 5 in OKC. Their defense has been a real headache for Kevin Durant, Russell Westbrook and the rest of the Thunder cast. “Still a race to four,” Grizzlies Mike Miller said. “We like where we are, but we have a lot of stuff we have to accomplish yet.”
The series have gone to four straight overtimes, something that had never happened before in the NBA.
“I’m getting tired of it,” Grizzlies guard Tony Allen said of all the extra work. “Hopefully, we do the things we need to do to try to avoid that, and that’s taking care of the ball down the stretch.”
Allen has been the pillar point of the defense; he has diminished Durant’s impact on every game and has leaned the balance towards Memphis.
“The great ones just continue to focus on the next game,” Thunder coach Scott Brooks said of Durant. “He’s a great one. He’s one of the greatest players in the world. He has to be able to continue to step up and take those shots, and he will. I have the utmost respect for his game.”
Game five has the Thunder as 2.5 point favorites and the game total is at 184.5 points.
