In a warm up Euro Qualifying game, Russia thrashed Azerbaijan 4-0 last Wednesday. Now they hope a gentle introduction in the first real qualifying game for the Euro 2016 against Liechtenstein next Monday 8, at 12:00 ET in the Khimki Arena.
The odds for this match are way in favor of Russia with -1600, +4000 for a draw and a huge +6000 in case of an incredible Liechtenstein victory.
However, Russia comes to this match in the middle of internal troubles. Last week, the squad manager, Fabio Capello, reported he has not received his salary for the last three months and is on a financial dispute at the Russian Football Union.
Also, on the world stage, the 2018 World Cup host is discussing with UEFA and FIFA representatives in order to absorb soccer clubs from the annexed territory of Crimea. Meanwhile, European Union Countries are thinking about possible sporting sanctions against Russia for those actions.
“We’re interested to have the homegrown players at the leading positions in the country’s clubs,” Sports Minister Vitaly Mutko was quoted as saying by ITAR-TASS news agency.
On the soccer aspects, the Zenit of St. Petersburg striker, Alexander Kerzhakov, arrives on fire after scoring two times last Wednesday against Azerbajian and setting a new record of 28 international goals with the Russian national team.
Russia has played four games against Liechtenstein with a 4-0 mark. On the other hand, the weak Liechtenstein has lost their last six games in a row.
