After a break for 2016 Euro qualifiers, the domestic leagues are back in action. In Serie A, AS Roma will host Chievo Verona at Olympic Stadium in Rome this Saturday (October 18 at 12:00 p.m. Eastern).
The game will be the 25th meeting between the teams. Roma leads the series with 12 wins, nine draws, and three losses. The oddsmakers see this game conforming to that trend, as the Giallorossi are heavy favorites to win the match, sitting at -333 in the moneyline. A Chievo upset will pay +800 and the draw +450.
After losing against Juventus (3-2) before the break, AS Roma captain, Francesco Totti, made some controversial statements, arguing that the referees helped Juventus come out on top.
“For years the same old incidents keep happening. I don’t know if we were beaten by referees, but we certainly were not beaten by Juventus tonight. With Juventus when there is any doubt whatsoever, it’s always a penalty. I have to stop now, as if I keep talking then I’ll get suspended,” said the striker. Totti’s comments harkened back to the 2006 match fixing scandal which saw Juventus relegated to the third division.
The loss to Juventus ended Roma’s streak of five straight wins to open the Serie A season. Roma will be hungry to start another winning streak and take the full three points on Saturday.
AS Roma is currently second in the league table with 15 points (5W, 0D, 1L) and a +7 in goal difference. Chievo is down in 16th position with just four points (1W, 1D, 4L) and a -4 differential.
