Massachusetts sports betting set a new high for handle totals in September, but revenues did not follow suit when compared with 2024.
The Massachusetts Gaming Commission reported more than $800.2 million in in total sports betting handle for September, an increase of more nearly $122 million over the total handle recorded in September 2024.
However, despite the increase in betting activity, revenues actually decreased in September compared with last year.
New Sports Betting Handle Record
September’s $800 million plus handle total was a record for the state. The previous monthly handle high was $788.3 million in December 2025.
No other month of sports betting has eclipsed that handle total, but Massachusetts licensed sportsbook operators could not capitalize on the elevated interest in terms of revenues.
The Massachusetts Gaming Commission reported $800,264,264 in total sports betting handle for the month, of which $789,354,963 came from online sports betting. It was an increase of nearly 18% compared with the September 2024 total handle of $678,764,179.
The state also reported $52.34 million in taxable gaming revenue for the month.
Despite the record handle activity, tax revenues decreased in September 2025. The commission reported $10,448,513 in sports betting tax revenues for the previous month, a decrease of 28.6% from the September 2024 tax revenue total of $14,635,556.
DraftKings Dominates Month
DraftKings accounted for more than 50% of the state’s monthly handle total, reporting $409.58 million in handle. The sports betting operator reported $26.08 million in taxable gaming revenue, only a 6.61% hold in September. The operator generated more than $5.2 million in tax revenue for the commonwealth in the month.
FanDuel maintained its hold of the second spot, reporting $192.6 million in monthly handle and $15.9 million in taxable gaming revenue, good for an 8.52% hold. The operator generated nearly $3.2 million in tax revenue for Massachusetts in the month.
Fanatics Sportsbook continued its strong run in the state, reported $83.15 million in total handle and $3.1 million in taxable gaming revenue.
